Pillar Bedding Question

I've seen pillar-bedding jobs where the action bears almost entirely on the pillars--with a little pedestal of glass (or Devcon) around them and most of the action suspended between the pillars. I've also seen pillar-bedding where the pillars are completely invisible from the top, with the entire action resting on a glass or Devcon bed. What is the approved way of pillar bedding (if there is consensus on this)?

I prefer contoured inverted top hat pillars of brass to deaden any harmonics/vibration on a match rifle.
Some will debate the pillar materials expansion & contraction rate differences when epoxied into a stock of what ever material.
Setting pillars to control action depth w/ epoxy radius to contour to the action will chip unless milled to pillar top(counterbore/spot face)face.
Setting pillars below flush on top & bottom side covered w/ epoxy will work in most hunting rifle configurations.

I prefer a release agent glue in & then mill lug clearances/drafts as required.

Different strokes for different folks.

Stress free is the key to any bedding job.
