Pictures of 6.5x47 Lapua Wildcats

Does anyone who is wildcatting with this new gem have pictures they could post? I would like to see how the .224 and 6mm wildcat variatns turned out compared to .243s and .22-250. Just curious.

The 6.5 x 47 lapua was being wildcatted before brass was available. Now that shooters are actually taking delivery of those shiney new cases there's no limit.

As to comparisons, that was done years ago with all the mid-sized wildcats using the various brass available at the time. The only difference now is that making cases will be a lot easier.

While on the subject, I hope everyone will settle on a moniker for all the new 6mm/6.5x47 wildcats. It sure will make discussing them a lot easier.

Hi Ray why not just 6X47 Lapua because it is just that. Tats what we are calling it as we have an order to fit 3 barrels.

There are a couple of 35 and 40 degree shoulder versions that are at least 5 or 6 years old. But none on the new brass as yet, that I know of).

I called the 6mm wildcat the 6mmHOT. The problem I was having was as soon as you say 6mmx47, a lot of people associate it with the old 6x47 based off the 222 case. The information website I set up for the cartridge is at www.6mmHOT.com

If every one go's and makes their own designation to the case/chambering we will get nowhere Robert on your reamer prints like mine the first designation from David Kiff is 6X47 Lapua before your designation of 6mmX47 Hot. Also you refer to the old 6X47 Remington there is a big designation difference the 6X47 Lapua, 6X47 Remington and 6X47 Swiss Match or SM. If every one places these designations after the 6X47 their should be no confusion. Now an Ackley or improved version could be called anything the creater wished but if it is a 40 degree shoulder with minimum body taper and leaving the same -4 thou headspace it should be called a 6X47 Lapua AI but if any other variations come up it is like making any other wildcat the first in best dresses but like Ray has pointed out it should be standardised as their is a lot of interest in the case in 6.5 and 6mm so we owe it to others to make a clear distinction on this case and none of us designed it Lapua did so they should get the naming rights if someone neckes it to 30 cal it should be the 30X47 Lapua i have not measured the volume it may make hunter benchrest regulations and if it does im sure people will try it.

I have a set of reamers that was made by Dave Kiff for 6.5x47-Ackley. Minimum neck for no-turn. Reamers should be at the gunsmith's and is waiting on a barrel and spare time :)

I hear what you are saying. Maybe it was presumptuous of me to call my version the 6mmHOT, but when I started discussions with people on a 6x47 Lapua, I immediately got confused people who thought the cartridge was either the old 6x47 based off the 222 case, or people who thought that it was a necked up version of a 223 with Lapua's new 223 brass. It could also be called a 6XC Short, since that's what it really is.

Everyone I showed the thing to said "Wow that's hot!" so that's why I did what I did.

At this point, I have no real vested interest in the name, and I am certainly not going to buck a general perception that the thing should be named the "6x47 Lapua" so I will change my reference to it on the website, althought the website name will remain the same www.6mmHOT.com

By the way I have reamer drawing for a neck turned 30 cal version of the cartridge, that mimicks the 30BR Robinette Reamer). If you want to see a copy I'll be happy to e-mail it to you.

Hi robert you should not change your website name it is up to you. I did not meat to have a go at you and you do not seem to have taken offence. As we are all working togethor in the shooting community forums like this are the best place to share information and help others and also clear up issues like what to call a case desiged off sompthing nel like the 6X47 Lapua. I would love to see a copy of your reamer print in 30 cal.
