PICS 600 yard BR match yesterday. That darned wind got me again.

I shot my new 6 Dasher in the 600 yard BR match, yesterday, at St. Louis Bench Rest Rifle Club. Now I see why folks are using dual port rifles; they want to get all 5 shots off in around 10 seconds, before the condition has time to change. Those few of us that still shoot single port rifles just flat don't stand a chance, it seems to me.

The range faces north and the winds were primarily S/SW, switching to south and S/SE fairly regularly and quickly, in both direction and velocity. When it takes me a couple of minutes to get my 5 off, I am exposed to too much change in the wind conditions. As a note, I only pay attention to the mirage, but it is very hard for me to pick up the subtle changes in the speed of those little wiggly lines going across the scope. And so, I kept getting burned by them.

But I didn't get burned as bad as some of shooters. We had 3 relays of 20 shooters in Light Gun/Factory; 6 got DQ'd. I don't know how many were shooting Factory, but at least a handful did. And it wasn't just the Factory guys with the DQ's; benchrest guns got caught up too. (Edit, 6 were DQ'd in Light Gun) Nor, was it only a Light Gun issue, Heavies had their own fair share of DQ's. In fact, one guy won small group and high score on one Heavy target, then DQ'd on all of his following 3 targets. I think his group was in the 1.280 range, then couldn't put 5 on paper with his next three targets. At least I wasn't in the DQ boat for Light or Heavy.

I shot my 16 pound, 3 ounce rifle in both Light and Heavy. Came in 24 and 27 out of 60, for group and score in Light Gun but I didn't see the results for Heavy. Maybe in the lower, upper half of the middle of the pack also.

Here are pics of 2 of my Heavy targets and one of the rifle. You see what I mean about the wind?
