Picked up a New Toy

Since moving to Ohio last year I didn’t have a legal rifle to use for deer season. After much deliberation and more than a little searching, I picked up this Henry lever gun in 44 Magnum. I think it will do just fine at the relatively short ranges that I have available to hunt. I will have to mount a low power scope since my eyes won’t allow me to shoot open sights anymore.

The new toy isn’t the little blue pickup truck behind the drill :)? I’m really bad about 1970’s hot wheels, myself. Probably my first hobby.

A Sleek, 2X7 Burris or, Leupold would be,.. BEST,.. IMO
The .44 Mag is, a GOOD, choice !
Lap the Rings and Loctite, "everything", Down !
Find the most accurate Hornady XTP Bullet for the Henry,.. and go for, it !
Good Luck and,.. Have Fun !

Bought a Marlin 44 mag 336 levers back in the mid-1960's. Killed lots of deer with it and could today if I chose. It will work just to just over 100 yards.

Recently had my first shooting experience with a Henry lever. Had always read great things about them. Just looking and handling gave me the impression they were good guns. Then I got to shoot one just a week ago for the first time. Fellow wanted me to sight it in for him. It was in one of the more modern straight cases but I forget the caliber. Learning experience.

The gun shot fine at 100 yards after I taught myself to deal with its' issues. Trigger pull is best measured in "stones" rather than lbs. Hideous pull was so hard I thought it was broken at first before the gun went off.

Next issue was the safety of sorts. You have to physically pull up on the lever while pulling the trigger to get the gun to fire. To me that pull up and also pull back at the same time is idiotic. Sure hope yours is not that way as they do have a quality look and feel about them.

Love that rifle - I would get one in a 357 if it weren't for this shortage BS - I can't feed the ones I have now so no sense buying another "mouth" to feed.:(
