Peterson srp brass

I know this has problably already been asked but what is you all thoughts on it?? I am wondering how the 243w srp brass will do in my 243ai!!

Don't know for a 243 AI but I experimented 243 Srp Peterson with N 160,CCI 450 and 105 Bart's Hammer . Accuracy was outstanding through a Krieger barrel chambered by John Whidden. . I found the single powder like N 160/N165 very easy to ignite and much better that double base
base powder! I Think the 243 Srp would be a positif way.;)

I get pierced primers with it, same loads as with large primers, they haven’t pierced. I run 22BR fairly warm with no pierced small primers, same action. Makes no sense me. The large primer 260 cases have shallow primer pockets. WLR, 9-1/2, CCI 200, and Fed all do not sit flush. S&B are slightly shorter and fit nicely.

Tubb tested the small primers in 6xc Peterson brass he said he saw no real improvement.

That being said he shoots a lot of the SRP with Rem 7 1/2 primers and H4350.

He said the 7 1/2 was the best SRP from his tests with the slow powders.

I run reformed 308 Win Lapua Palma srp in 7mm-08 with a 47.1gn N160 compressed charge. No problems and excellent results year round from temperatures in the 30s to 70s F. Rem 7 1/2BR is my sole primer here.

I've just received some Peterson 243 Win srp to reform to 6SLR with the intention of using a case-load of N165 under 105-108s with maybe a toe into the waters with 115s too. I've found N165 as unfussy about ignition as N160, but not as yet with small primers. As I have lots of CCI-BR4s that I used to use in 308 Win FTR, I'll kick off with this model and only try others if unhappy with the results.

I wonder why? And have you tryed magnum primers?

Hi Laurie,

I cant find the Rem 7 1/5 BR in french country . Did you have some adress in Europe?

Michel

Remington 7 1/2BR @rafale. My stocks are rather old now - this primer used to be very common in the UK, and attractively priced too so I bought 10,000 maybe 10 years ago which I'm still using up. But these days we buy what we can get which is often not much of a choice - and for CCIs very expensive too. The most common primers around right now in this country seem to be the Russian Murom models, some of which are excellent.

If you can find any, the CCI-450 SR magnum is usually a good performer in the larger case cartridges from the BRs upward, although there have been some reports over the last 12 months of misfires with CCI SR models in both the US and UK.

Thanks Laurie ! Do you think the Russian Murom is a good performer for larger case cartridges using slow powder(N160/N165) ?

I can't talk about srp Muroms with these two powders. They work well with Viht N150 in 308 Palma brass. (Avoid the basic Murom SR primer, the KVB-223, though for hot loads. It has a thin, soft cup.)

In lrp cartridges such as 6.5-284 and 284 Win etc, the Murom large rifle model KVB-7 is an excellent performer and widely used in the UK by F-Class and other precision shooters. My 284 load uses this primer and Viht N165 successfully.
