Peterson Brass 223

I'm posting this for all that load 223 or a derivative thereof like the 223AI and would like to see other options on high quality match grade brass. I had the distinct pleasure of a personal tour with Derek Peterson of their operation soon after startup and as a professional quality assurance engineer and Metallurgist I can say that they (Peterson) have all the tools and practices and procedures in place to make a very consistent product. Since then I know many shooters that have made the switch from the other premium brands to Peterson and sing very high praises. As for me I chose to go small and stick with the 223 for my own reasons, but really miss the performance I got from Peterson on the 308 and 6.5. I have contacted them on several occasions and they indicate that 223 is not in their future plans. I know it is an expensive process to tool up for new products, but I can't believe that there is not sufficient demand, particularly for the FT/R market that adding this option is not viable. Unless that is that they know their cases will last forever and it's a self limiting market.

So after all that verbiage, what I am asking is for those who agree and would like to see Peterson offer this, please let them know. I for one want to be at the top of the list when it happens.

Thanks

I thought Lapua .223 brass was the answer but my results with Nosler Premium are proving me wrong.

Nosler premium is made by norma if im not mistaken and norma makes brass for lapua in some calibers. I recall reading it in an article not too long ago

I have 200 pieces on Norma, that I have not shot yet. Holding them in reserve. But past experience with Norma - which was the brass provided to PRIME in the beginning, was not pleasant. Waaaay too soft, basically 50-60% of those cases lost the primer pockets on the factory load. Copper content was too high, you could even see it readily by case color, x-ray spectroscopy later revealed 75-25 +/- a few traces of Sn and Sb. I have since retired and no longer have access to analytical equipment to really check, but the new stuff at least is the same colour as the Lapua, sans anneal oxidation. That being said I too have heard lots of good things about the Nosler by Norma, so I bought some just to see. It was Norma Bulk from Midsouth, and not the Nosler select as that was nowhere to be found.

While I would jump at the chance to try Peterson 223, I’ve been using Starline 5.56. It’s hard, 6 firings with a good load of Varget pushing a 90vld at 2750. I would have lost quite a few Lapua by now, but haven’t trashed any of these for a loose primer pocket. I turn the necks for my tight neck chamber and then load them. Can’t beat the price either.

If I could shoot like that, I'd start using the starline too. Great target - maybe one day I'll get there. but of course shooting here on the Gulf Coast, getting 30 seconds of a similar wind is an oddity to say the least. The calls are like a yo-yo, and I aint that good.

I don’t shoot heavies (80-90), in the 223, mainly the 69-75 grainers, with emphasis on the 73 Berger. I’ve used Lapua 223 brass in my 223AI and it performed well, pockets loosened a bit after 6-8 firings, not too bad. But, I’d like to try Peterson 223 if they ever make it. But, I think it’s a small market considering all the LC and other brands out there.
Actually, I’m getting very good results with sorted LC. So, I understand their hesitancy.

IIRC - Peterson has responded here at A.S. to queries about making .223 Rem brass, and the answer was a rather brusque, "No". Although I would be very pleased if Peterson came up with an offering of .223 Rem brass, it doesn't sound like they currently have any interest.

Probably too many others out there to capture a profitable market share.

I like the Norma, and have decent blue bag Winchester I still use.
