I’m with you. That cartridge is supposed to shoot fast and flat.

I run book max of H4831SC out of my 24” barrel with130’s and get great velocity. Could go further I suppose since I have no pressure signs. Didn’t do max book on purpose, but that’s where the targets led me. H4831SC is your friend.

To the OP. As always. Work up slowly and just because it works in my gun, doesn’t mean it works in yours.

Chrono results with 62.0 grains of H4831SC and 130 grain Hornady SST.

Name: 270A3H
Shots: 5
Average: 3214 FPS
SD: 12 FPS
Min: 3205 FPS
Max: 3236 FPS
Spread: 31 FPS
Temperature: 63
Weight: 130 grains

I might suggest the sierra 140gr gameking hpbt. I've had great luck with them, not that the 130 grainers don't work well. Also, you can't go wrong with h4831sc.

140gr gameking
61.5 grains of h4831sc
Seated at 18 thou jump
This it what my 270 seems to like best, if it helps at all goodluck

My Ruger all weather boat paddle likes 60g of H4831 with a 130g Hornady Flat base, Speer btsp, or Nosler partition, 3/4" groups and 225 yards is about my limit where I hunt.

Thanks folks. Seems I'm on the right track. I loaded a box with Hornady 130gr. SP over 55gr. of 4831. I'll see how they do on paper and over the chrono. I'll be after Montana white tail and mule deer. If I draw an elk tag I'll switch to the 7mm Rem. Mag.

55g of H4831 is one heck of a light load,

This is just for what it is worth. The 55 gr of H 4831 is the accuracy load from the #6 Nosler manual. It shows a velocity of 2900 FPS.
I shot his load before, with a Sierra 130, and it shot very well. Less than 1/2 inch at 100. Had to find the right seating though.

I saw that in the manual, tried it in my Rem and Ruger. 2700 fps, just goes to show you how lot# of powder can sure vary a lot. 60g was doing 3000 in my two rifles, and 62g was ungodly hot.

Good luck, Kmart!

For most of my 48 years of highpower rifle shooting 60 gr H4831 with most cup and core 130gr bullets has been THE LOAD for the 270 Win. I like Rem. cases and CCI BR primers and Sierra Game King or Nosler BT for deer.

Magpro is for 130 grainer's. However if you want the best deer hunting 270 load here it is. Look at barnes load data and you will see the 85 grain tsx at 3900 fps. Their newest data doesn't show R17 but the older data did show 64 grains for 3900 fps. Me and my huntn buds all use this load.= half- three quarter inch groups and a two inch hole through the deer at any angle. No lead fragments in the meat. I recommend this load to everyone.

I have (2) 270's. A Remmy 700 and Winny 70. The 700 likes 55 Grns of IMR4350 and the Mod 70 likes 56 Grns of IMR4831. I shoot 130 Nosler BT's in both rifles. I tried to get them to shoot the same load, but they just won't do it.

Try some Rel 22 with the 130 gr Hornady sst they shoot good and drop deer where they stand. The load is 59.8 gr, but velocity is higher then what book says.

This is the truth. Work up to the 60g H4831.
