PENROD BUILT RIFLE WORTH?

jonbearman

I live in new york state, how unfortunate !
I have a rifle J M Penrod built maybe in the 1980's (I am guessing). It has a skelontinized stock anodized red which has faded some. It is a 700 remington early rifle receiver judging by the serial. It is chambered in 22 ppc so if you can tell me when this cartridge came out maybe it will nail down its real age. Wood inserts are crotch walnut with the 3 inch front piece has a little figure. I scoped the barrel, it doesnt look that great but the guy who had it told my friend it still shot ok.I have no way to photo it but my neighbor may be able to. Its unique to me at least. The trigger resembles some kind of reworked 700 trigger maybe. I dont want to take the trigger out just yet.It breaks decent at only a few ounces. This was used as short range bench rest. Was Mr Penrod still around or is he unknown.

I believe Mark started business in 1980. The JM Penrod is John Mark, maybe.
You can search him on this forum. He smiths CF and RF.
Supposedly the 22PPC originated in 1974.

Stock sounds like a c.p.s aluminum skeleton stock and trigger maybe a Beeson about right for time era...

Thanks for the help so far. It is an interesting rifle for sure.If I keep it I am going to rebarrel it. I will eventually shoot it as is but the wear and tear of the first 7 inches is substantial to me.
