Pennsy and semi -autos

I believe it has been approved by the PA House and Senate just recently but the Game Commission is to set the specific regs. My sources tell me that it will be limited to coyotes and varmints (ghogs).

And they finally are considering air rifles! I would welcome a change...if I move back I could hunt bunnies with my favorite tools, a beagle and a Ruger MK2 Govn't target model. And I could hunt pigeon with my Marauder 25.

Welcome to the 20th century PA.

The public comment session with the Game Commission board went well. No one voiced an objection to allow semi-automatic rifles to be used for small and big game hunting. The Game Commission board will vote today. Included in the discussion: small game, varmints, fall turkey, bear, elk and deer.

It has been approved and Governor Wolf has signed off on it. It is going in front of the Game Commissioners for final regulations at the meeting ( what species can you use it for).

yep...you will have to mount an orange flag (105 square inches) on your barrel and will have to sound a trumpet before taking an animal, unless it is Sunday, in which case you blow a dog whistle, cause no one wants to disturb the animals on Sunday...;)
Don't forget the Philly lawyer to verify you are in compliance with the ten million words of regulations. Oh, and even though not hunting, he's also required to wear the 105 square inches. :p

There will be a decibel limit on the trumpet as to not be confused with the Three Mile Island siren. The orange flag placement will change with the seasons, soltices and menstrual cycle of the former AG Kathleen Kane which can now be monitored closely due to her jail term.

Hold it a minute. Did you say semi - AUTOMATIC!!!??? Aren't they the ones that no responsible sportsman should ever have a need for? Sounds like "military style assault weapons" to me.

Good luck guys. A good outcome on this might indicate a trend. jd

The vision of hordes of AR-15, AR-10 and AKs swarming Penn's woods on the first day of buck season is GREATLY exaggerated. An informal survey at my gun club of AR/AK shooters: #1. 90% don't even hunt. #2. The ones that do prefer a scoped bolt action that their dad/grandfather gave them.

Having said that, remembering those first days, I can stil hear those 760s being emptied as fast as humanly possible. Funny there was never a discouraging word said about that lack of sportsmanship.

I recall seeing deer that looked strafed by a P-51, and everyone was smiling, talking about how hard it is to knock down a deer, even with 180 grain RN in the carbine 760

Yeah, those big brown running objects are tough characters.:(

I recall seeing deer that looked strafed by a P-51,
To my shame, I have resembled that remark. -- but it wasn't because I was packin an automatic.

Most folks who have gone out to kill critters have found out the hard way that it doesn't always go well. And sometimes it gets down-right ugly. One time a friend who was watching me from a couple hundred yards away, swore that he'd never heard anyone fire a semi-auto faster than I was shooting my bolt gun at a deer that I had wounded.

I can only imagine what it must get like in Pennsylvania where the woods are thick, the deer are thick, and the hunters are thicker. jd

I don't live in Pa but I hunt groundhogs there for much of the season. The LAST thing I would like to see is semis of any description unloading within air time of me. The additional noise alone will keep some varmints heads down. I don't see how it makes sense when there are so many targets that need killing.
