That's cool!! Remember: "The family that plays together stays together"! Can't think of a better form of 'playing' than shooting.

Posing for a photo without glasses is one thing. Live fire is another all together. Shame on you.

Guys,

Let's keep it civil. One poster was correct that some of the Guns of the Week show shooters in position without protective eyewear. In most situations, that was a posed shot, not live fire.

We instruct our gun of the week sources to include safety glasses in the photos, but sometimes that is forgotten.

There ARE well-known shooters who outright refuse to wear safety glasses. I do NOT understand that. I personally rant and rave about this issue. I almost got "asked to leave" a National Championship after firmly telling the match directors that I was amazed competitors were allowed to shoot without safety eyewear. The response was "eye protection is required, but not mandatory." Say what??

Bottom line, all shooters should wear protective eyewear ALL the time during live fire. I have put MY time and effort into encouraging protective eyewear. See:

http://www.6mmbr.com/eyeprotection.html

In my own personal experience I can say that I still have two functional eyes instead of one because I was wearing safety glasses. 8 years ago I was shooting an HK USP .45 acp pistol. Because of a metal flaw, the firing pin sheared in half and the rear half exited the gun as the slide recoiled rearward. The firing pin section came straight back and hit me right in the middle of my safety glasses, leaving a nasty divot. Better that than tool steel going right through my eyeball.

I have heard every excuse under the sun for not wearing eye protection. I haven't heard one yet that was compelling.

Re: My beautiful wife shoot clay's @ 500 yards **UPDATED**

This was a very nice, family involvement post until, quite frankly, the originator retorted. Sorry, Bam Bam, you're off base in my protected 70 year old eyes. I saw a guy die as a result of an incident in September 2001. Eye glasses may have saved his life as the particle that killed him wasn't very large, just well (poorly) placed.

Is this sort of competition to see who can be a bigger Barney Fife about shooting safety? Give it a rest or take that business over to one of those other forums where people attack each other from complete internet anonymity.
