Patches

I have a large supply of 1 3/4" Square Patches that were recommended by Bob White at The Shooters Corner, for my 6.5x47 and I have a good supply of 1" Square Patches that I have been using for my .17.

What does everyone recommend for my:

.22s - Rim Fire and Center Fire?
6mm
.308

Stocking up my Range Box and am about to put in an order with Sinclair for some more stuff.

Thanks, Bob

22RF I use either 3/4" or 1 1/8" with a 22 jag
22 CF I use 1 1/8" with a 22 jag
6mm/243 I use 1 3/4" with a 22 jag
308 I use 1 3/4" or 2" round with a 270 jag (.250" diameter)

These are all square Pro-Shot patches. The 2" round are Pro-Shot as well. These are the best patches I've ever used !! The 22 jag is a Sinclair style and 270 jag is Pro-shot style. Your jag size will dictate what patch to use.
Hope this helps.

Not trying to hijack, but what about bore snakes ? Use them or not ?

I use them on the 308, 22lr, 5.56 AR, and 45.

I'm a two sizes fits all when it comes to patches.

A bore snake is handy to have out in the field while you are hunting or something, in case you need to do a quick and dirty cleanup, but that's about it.

I use Bore Snakes regularly on my shotguns and love them and I have used one on my Henry .22 Golden Boy as it is not that precision of a rifle and not as easy to clean and keep the action from getting any solvent into it. I have also wondered about using them on the new rifles I now have and figure even though you see the ads on here, that they are too low tech for Benchrest standards.

The problem I've encountered with most patches is that they shred leaving residual threads in the chamber.

I've solved this problem by purchasing Hoppe's synthetic patches which do not shred. I purchase them in bulk at Midway. For my 224 and 6mm calibers I have to use a 22 and 270 patch together to get a proper fit with a Dewey jab. For the 308 I have to use a 45 caliber and 270 patch together.

This system works extremely well for me.

I go to wally world and get a yard of white cotton flannel , makes tens of thousands of patches for $3.00 a yard.....

I cut different sizes for different calibers..

I'm sending you three bucks so you can cut another ten thousand patches. You send me 5000 and you keep the other 5000. Deal?

For nice smooth shotgun barrels, we have boxes of used (but washed and dried) Tee Shirts that cut up into nice patches.

A cutting mat and a rolling cutter is all needed--right next to the fabric. ;)
