partial sizing question

I have just started reloading for a Savage F Class 6.5-284. I have Forster Bench Rest sizing and seating dies. The instructions for the sizer say that for fireformed brass can be partially sized by backing the die out and then gradually screw it in until the sized brass chambers smoothly.
My fired brass chambers smoothly with no sizing at all. I guess I should adjust the die so it sizes just the neck down to the point it meets the shoulder. Does that sound right? Thanks for any input. David

They will probably tighten up going in the chamber after a few firings, then is the time to set your die to size them just enough to allow them to go in the chamber easy.
Check that with the firing pin assembly out of the bolt, and set the die so that bolt handle free falls about half way down, and then starts to tighten up, and all will be well with your stuff.....
Any that don't feel really close to the same way going in should be used for something else other than money shoots....

If you adjust the die so that it sizes the whole neck, then you've sized the whole case. You only need to size about half the neck.

I'm not sure this is true with a 284-based case, but usually, if you go too far, you'll start sizing the shoulders in a bit and this pushes the shoulder forward. Once you go too far, you'll have to size completely to get the shoulder pushed back.
