Paper Box Eley

I was picking up some different lot of Rifle Match to try tonight and mentioned the I’ve heard several people reference a certain year of ammo that they have all found to be excellent and are hoarding. He said this Eley Tenex Paper Box was the best he’s ever shot. Well I talk him into selling me one box to which the other gentleman couldn’t believe. One stipulation I have to report back how well these shoot. Hmmm what do I do if either shoot amazing. I won’t get anymore. Anybody have any experience with either of these or a type that seemingly just shoots amazing.

Back in the early 90's the rotc was provided with eley 10 x red box. In cardboard boxes. It was really good ammo. Shot several lots and it all shot great. I have tried plastic boxed ten x and not found any that was as good as the old cardboard box stuff. Just my experience. Toms

Eley changed to plastic boxes in the late 1970s. The brownish box of Tenex is old and has no special accuracy qualities that is absent in modern match ammo. If it shoots well, it is from a lot that was good. There are more contemporary lots that will shoot equally well. As always, shooters must test to find them -- regardless of make.

Update: Shot both, they weren’t joking about the HV being High Velocity, 10 shot average of 1440 fps. Paper Box Tenex averaged 1104 fps. Shot out of a Whidden Bartlein barrel. Accurate? Not so much out of my set up. Tested others at the same time as well. Wind was a little switchy but not as bad as it has been. Attached is the SK I have been shooting and An Eley Lot that I tested. I definitely will try to get more of that one.
