Palma Load Development

For those of you with an interest in Palma shooting or just plain accuracy with a .308, I just finished a new article on my Palma testing and load work for the upcoming season. I'll work on Part 2, actual loading technique over the next week or two.

Nice read, thanks. Have you played with IMR 8208 XBR much? I looked on your blog but did not see anything. Looking at the reloading data from Hodgdon it would seem to be promising.

Gary, I haven't tried X8208 at all. I've had a pound sitting here since it came out, but with my move to the 175 - 190 range of bullets, it hasn't seemed like it's the right burn rate.

Hi German,
One of the best 308 bullets I've tested at 1000 yards is the Berger 185 LR BT. No problem getting 2800+ FPS with Varget, SD was 04. The rifle has a 30" 13 twist Krieger barrel and chambered with the new Palma team reamer. The bullets were stabilized in the 13 twist at Sacramento in 50 degree temperature, but I think a 12 twist would be better.

Jerry, looking forward to seeing you down here! I need to try the 185 in this barrel. I tried it in a couple of others and just couldn't get the same accuracy as with the 175, but I never say never!
