Pala VARMINT RIFLE SILHOUETTE

I am planning to participate in my first long range match at Pala. Are there any words of wisdom you folks would like to share?

I'll be using a 6.5x47L with 107 SMKs at about 3000 fps.

Thanks

I thought they shot mid-range matches at Pala. Both mid-range and long-range matches are shot at Pendleton.

I guess long range is a relative term. The range I usually shoot on is only 220 yards, 600 yards seems long. The Pala match is 600 yds max.

I take your point and the target size certainly contributes to the definition. In High Power, the NRA defines 300-600 as mid-range and 800-1000 as long-range. My preferred target is a half-MOA circle. I think those little, steel varmints are smaller than that.

Ron,

You'll have a great time.

Advice: Make sure you have a rock-solid 100 or 200-yard zero, and set a zero-stop there. You need very, very accurate comeups for the various distances.

At each distance there are ten (10) targets in two banks of five (5). During the actual match you only get ONE sighter per 5-target bank. Therefore your elevation needs to be dead on.

You will have 45-60 minutes to confirm your elevation before the match starts.
