Pair firing for worlds?

In all seriousness we do strongly recommend those who are not used to pair firing try to get some practice before coming up, it'll make things go a lot smoother for everyone. To reiterate a couple of points:

- There is a 45 second shot limit from the time your partner accepts their score.
- The typical etiquette here is to call out your partner's score when the board comes up, at which point they should say "thank you', "ok", "dammit", or some other indication that they are in agreement.
- It is a competitor's right/responsibility to ensure their partner is respecting the time limit. If it's once or twice you might want to just mention it, but if it continues to be an issue then inform a range officer.
- Range officers will also be watching for slow firing, and will provide a warning before taking steps to rectify the issue.
- Be respectful, and treat others the way you'd want to be treated.
- The "eh" after calling scores is optional, however some have more control over it than others. :D

We look forward to having you all up this summer!

Scott has done a good job of explaining it, but I would like to expand on the point about acknowledging your score. Once your partener has called out your score, it is your responsability to acknowledge the score. If you don't, and there is a disagreement in the score, you don't have much recourse. It's perfectly acceptable to take a brief moment to get a good look at where your shot went, but once you are satisfied, please acknowledge, so your partner knows you agree with the score, and are ready for him to shoot. If you are watching for your target to come back up, it doesn't take too long to listen to your score being called, confirm that you agree with the value called, mark it on your plot sheet, and grunt, curse, agree, whatever- just say something so your partner knows he can carry on.

Just to clarify for my fellow Americans, you can quickly figure out if the person with whom you're paired is Canadian and from which part of the country they hail from.

If he or she says "aout" or "abaout" or "prohcess" instead of "out," "about" or "prawcess", they are Canadian.

The next step is to figure out from which part. It's all in the way they finish their sentences.

If they end their sentences with "eh": Ontario, or maybe Manitoba.

If they end their sentences with "Coin?" or "Tabarnak": Quebec. If you also hear "Siboir," Montreal city.

If they end their sentences with "By Gar" or "My son": Maritime provinces. If you also heard "Cod", Newfoundland.

If they end their sentences with "Oil": Alberta, maybe Saskatchewan.

If they don't use anything special to end their sentences and look confused all the time: BC.

Hope this helps.

Denys, Living close to Canada for over 50 years, I've encountered a lot of our northern neighbors. My eyes are watering while laughing. However it's not just above the border dialects. Check out Fargo and Da Yoopers!

Rules books will be available for purchase in Ottawa, and are also available for free from:
http://www.icfra.co.uk/FC_Rules_and_FCWC_match_conditions_2014_A6.pdf

If you search this PDF file for the string "45 sec" you will find four occurrences; reading those paragraphs will give you a pretty good idea of what the rules say on the"45 second rule"

From what I have heard the 45 sec rule will be enforced
Who would keep the time? As a competitor you have enough to keep track of.

The ROs are charged with enforcing the rules. If your shooting partner is shooting slowly you are well within your rights to remind them of the rules and encourage them to speed up and get on with it. If they are deliberately breaking the rule (trying to be cute and wait out a difficult wind condition) then this is less like inefficient and more like cheating...

What to do? Shot counts as a miss, if you do not shoot in 45 seconds? That would seem harsh.

The rules (F13.27 in this case) describe the procedure and the penalties. Basically - the RO times a shooter, then issues a warning. Next late shot has a two point penalty. Late shots after that count as misses.

I was thinking about worlds and I have never pair fired before. If you have a malfunction on the line do you get zeros until you get the problem fixed or do you get to make up the missed shots?

My personal experience? I was firing the fullbore championships in Canada back in the late 1990's or early 2000's. My bolt handle broke. I got the attention of the range officer and line officer, my time was marked, the person I was paired with continued single firing with another scorer while I got my backup rifle. During this time, an armorer cleared my rifle. When I returned to the line, and got resettled, my time was restarted and I finished the stage. The Canadian Championships are done right. I cannot imagine that they will run the worlds (in any discipline) any different.

A cattle prod would do the job:D

Last time I pair fired, my partner was waiting for a certain condition to return. He is a great guy and I did not call it on him, but there should be a way to politely say something. After several minutes I totally forgot the condition I was shooting in. E-targets would totally solve that problem. Last shot fired xx seconds ago right on the screen, but you would still have to say something. Causing a situation is not good for either of the shooters concentration. What to do? Shot counts as a miss, if you do not shoot in 45 seconds? That would seem harsh.

While he may be a great guy, not enforcing the 45 second rule is unfair to ALL the other shooters...
