Painting a McMillan Tooley stock

I'm getting a rifle built, and he ordered the stock back in January to be unfinished. I originally planned on painting it, but now I'm having second thoughts. I've done 4 other rifles so far and all turned out nice, but none costing nowhere near as much at this one will. It's going to be a 6x47 using the BAT action and NF scope. But anyways, I need to decide asap if I want to paint or get it marbled from McMillan. Have any of you guys painted a stock like this? If so, did you use acrylic or urethane? I'd dont have access to spray guns, just spray paint, like i used on the others. My main concern is sticking to it and durability. Thanks

sir I own & operate a auto repair shop, to remove mold release, windex with about 10% acetone, works with removing todays super wax from autos very well before paint. 600 hundred grit wet sandpaper. stop in at napa for a spray can of high fill primer. ask about what finish u want . remember to leave plenty of time between coats of primer. 4 coats should b enough. good luck, al workman

Couple winters ago wife and I visited Phoenix. I have couple McMillans on 22 BR guns (Suhls) and was thinking I wanted to do some painting.

We drove over to McMillans plants and there at the picnic bench was the plant Mgr. He was very helpful and strongly encouraged my project.

He gave me names of prods-filler and paints to use. Actually he said most any paint from your local store would work, as I remember.

His closing comments, or close to it"...if you dont like the color, just repaint it-it is only paint."

Since I had a young fellow I know that teaches 'bump shop' at a high school do one for me. He did a beautiful job-all nicks and mold marks are gone. I have a nice gold stock-"Goldie".. He charged $50 and I suspect he spent 4-5 hrs on it. He said any more would be $100..

So if you want check at the local HS and see if someone would do-maybe an advanced student. Next Id check at the local auto paint/parts store for recommendations. Bad part is the filler you will need is probably about teaspoonful or two and probably sells in quarts. Maybe the local bumpshop will sell/give us a couple tablespoonfuls.
