outers foul out ?

I bought one when they first came out many years ago. The really remove copper. Problem is, by the time you set them up, use them, clean up and then still clean the gun of the foul out residue you could have cleaned quite a few guns.
I loaned it to a buddy once and he forgot to remove the chamber plug after cleaning his 30-06. Not sure how long he left the plug and residue in the bottom of the barrel, but it was ruined. I never used it after that. He had to replace his barrel, but he did find a nice 25-06 to replace it with.
Just some food for thought

My experience has been the same as Mikes. It can be time consuming to set up and may need several applications to complete. It can also be messy…spills, overfills, leaks. I used one quite a bit before I learned to reduce heavy fouling in the first place.

It does have some merit in regards to removing extensive copper fouling from rough bores and heavy lead fouling from shooting cast bullets. It was impressive to pull the rod out and see gobs of fouling coated to it. But the rod would need to be scoured clean, the bore brushed, and the process repeated until it was clean. On occasion, this took more than a day to complete.

I eventually sold it. Didn’t need it as I had got rid of my barrels that fouled badly, and learned to prevent excessive fouling with frequent cleaning using conventional solvents, mild abrasives, and bronze brushes.
