Our new president

It looks like the first thread on this is closed. Let's try another. It looks to me like we have very few choices in this country today. We as a country are leaning more and more liberal every day. At least that is what the press would have us believe. And it appears that yesterdays vote shows the liberal side in a thin majority. I have to agree about the lack of a really good Republican canidate for a long time. We, as conservative, or rational, or whatever we are, people, have got to get our act together. Now. We have got to find a direction we can support, a leader we can support, and win. The alternative is not good. We also must do it in a rational fashion. We have good intentions. Now we must sell them. We believe in our Constitution and way of government. We have got to educate, lead, and sell our ideas. Or lose everything.
Comments?

OldPhil, reality check time. Thin majority? The electoral college count was 349 to 173, in favor of our President-elect. This election result is the people's will, expressed individually-perhaps our nation's greatest strength. Believe in the Constitution?
Great ! Support YOUR government, duly elected by a massive majority of voters, not the press. Many before us have borne great hardship to allow us the choices we all enjoy today. Honor that. This no time for summer patriots.

The electoral college is deceiving. Look at the vote numbers. And you are right, summer patriots is not the answer. Rather, I think we have to look at the question. Is our government going the best way for the majority of the people. This is not about not honoring our past. It is about reflecting on our past, and our history, and making the best decisions for our country. My concern is that too many of us are doing nothing but complaining. It is time to go to work, with honest ideals and goals. This is about the 2nd amendment, but also the 1st, and all the rest. I am concerned with our economic, moral, and ideals directions. Are these valid concerns?

Instead of just complaining I did the only thing I could do, Join the NRA and let them be our voice of reason. Then get as many as our shooting brothers you can find and convince them to join. Let them fight for us and to watch what they are trying to pass.

I think joining the NRA is a necessary step. They are our only real leadership on 2nd Amendment. But that is only the beginning. We as gun people, as conservatives, and as Republicans, seem to forget continuity. This is a lifetime battle. We have got to get organized and stay organized. We have to present our case and build support. In line with the direction of this forum, we need to encourage young people, and share our interest with older people. None on my kids shoot. That is bad, and is partly my fault. I am going to work on that. I encourage each of you to do the same. We have a legacy to leave. I hope it is freedom to bear arms.

CTshooter,

I'll have to argue the point a little on this one. HE did win by a large electorial vote, but don't forget that the popluar vote was much, much close, and it truely shows that we, conservitives, are now in the minority. WE'll not start a debate on the the flaws of the electoral college.

The media is the main reason he was voted in! Obama was made "God Like" everywhere you looked, while the liberal press and media hammer McCain/Palin on every turn. For the first time since I can remember, I truely feel that the liberal media played a HUGE part, in steading their liberal crap, in getting Obama elected. It was SICKEN to watch just how Obama was "worshipped" over by the media.

And remember this to all you guys out there with children - there is one thing we can do - The young vote is being said to be the vote that won this election for Obama. Now the question is how did the young vote become so liberal? It's very, very simple - though our schools!!!! It is what they are taught while at school while we're out busting our humps making a living and paying more taxes! It's dire that we take the time, spend time, with our kids,as they are my responiblity, not yours or the goverments), be a mentor to local youth if able, and instill and share our morals, and values into them. This is what will save this country! We must rebuild our country though teaching a set of morals, values, the difference between right and wrong, alot of inner city kid's have never learned these values!! because no one has ever been there to teach them - thus the school system show proof of their failure as a "secondary" parent), and mainly, we must get back to the basic - SELF RESPONIBILITY, AND ACCOUNTIBILITY! What ever happened to pride - Expecting nothing if you've earned nothing!!!

I'll get off the soap box..BTW, here is the first step..Teach a child to hunt and shoot - this is my 14 year olds fifth deer - killed her first one at 11!!! She goes by herself now!! I was on my way back from a shoot this past weekend when she called all excited saying she'd finally killed a big one. No amount of typing or talking can explain the pride a man feels when they children learn to respect and love the outdoors, hunting, and shooting sports! She has been taught gun safety from a very early age, and is hell of a shot!

Good point. Good line of reasoning. I believe we were sold a bill of goods on Obama. I beleive it is because a lot of the young don't know where to look for the truth. I agree that it comes down to schools. We as parents, or grandparents, have a huge task and resposibility ahead of us. If we don't do it, nobody will. Years ago, grandparents taught kids, took them shooting, took them to church. We need to remember that.

ok, lets me rant a little bit over politics and government in general. Neither the far right or far left work. need proof?

Russia... enough said about far left, but there are more examples all over the place.

Start of the industrial revolution the companies mostly had total free reign and treated workers like crap the environment like crap and it was a very bad situation. so the far right does not work either.

Now fundamentally what does work?

Well to make a long story short. The most efficient way is the Republican way, small central government with bigger local governments. Though I wonder if many Republicans even remember this.

Ideally the local governments would respond to the problems of there community, as they are the ones that understands the unique problems of the area they live in. This simple fact makes this system much more efficient, and give much more of the power to the people, as its much easier to voice your needs to someone that looks out after 1000 peoples needs then someone that looks out after 100,000,000 peoples needs.

Now how do we explain that the democratic party even still exists as it probably should not, but it is good to keep the far right in check. I think this is related to a fundamental problem that has been building over a long time. The mentality of the poor, lower middle class, and much of the middle class don't believe in hard work like we use to. Much of them want to do less and get paid more or get more handouts to improve there standard of living. This is a large portion of the population.

Fundamentally I think the majority of the country is still right center, which is also the correct place to be fundamentally. The last few years the Republicans have done a very poor job, and have really lost there way. This is why we now have a Democratic president and congress.

The Republican need to find themselves and get back to there roots. We need less central government and need the people to have the power. But more then this, we need to educate people as to why the Democratic, liberal) view is fundamentally flawed. And that a large central government redistributing wealth is not only bad, but will probably bankrupt the country, as you cant discourage people from succeeding, at the same time encourage people to do less and get handouts. And that form of government leads to mediocrity.

We have to accept our current situation and work to bring the disenfranchised voters back to the right center. The radicals severely hurt this effort and push these people further the other way.

To be honest, right now there are many other issues that are much greater then our right to bare arms, and I dont think anyone in the government is going to try to go after them right now and increase the rift that has grown in this country. Right now your going to see the focus on the economy, and will probably see that for some years to come.,But, we will be vigilant encase the try)

I think its also important to point out that this crisis started in housing in which the democrats caused. The media did a great job pushing it on the republicans, and I think somehow it needs to come out that it was the democratic congress that cause this problem.

I know this wont be popular, but a lot of good can come out of Obama being president. If he goes to the center, he can heal this country more then McCain ever could have. He also helps our image on the world stage tremendously. If he doesn't stay far left, he has the opportunity, that no other candidate really had.

With that being said I really doubt he will go to the center from what I have seen, such as his first appointment of Rahm Emanuel as chief of staff... honestly I think we are screwed for some years to come, and I hope I am wrong.

Bottom line is he is the president elect. We have to give him a fair shot and support him. If he does crazy stupid thing then we need to point em out and protest them, in a civil way. This is the best way to return the masses to our side.

From first hadnd experience, I am 19 I got into shooting with no influence from family or friends, and have been shooting for almost two years, and handloading for a year now. I am in college. I understand the viewpoint in college and among our youth.

It seems to me that in my region, young voters do seem to rely on the media exclusively and not search out opinions, or more importantly: truths. With that being said, however in the position of this website being a great asset to the 2nd Ammendment, I see that most young people are opposed to gun control in my area. I am happy to hear that. My area may be isolated, because I am in Southern Illinois, and live in a VERY democractic county.

With that being said, I am having trouble understanding why the same people who told me about their opposition to gun control, voted for Obama. Are we confused? Or is they simply jumping on the bandwagon of "change" when nobody really knows what "change" means.

JerryB,
You aren't confused, nor am I or the majority of the US. The confusion lies with the small group of voters who voted only for their 2nd Amendment rights. Our new President will take a beating along with those who chose to stand up and vote for what THEY believe in. Obama is our new President, and we need to go on with life. Again, it is just too simple to blame the voters, liberals and media. The American people have spoken. You really want to be a part of change, or be a part of the complaint department only? If you are frequenting any of the businesses, organizations or individuals on the attached site, you then are a part of the groups trying to destroy our 2nd Amendment. You can forget about our NRA taking on the Supreme Court." It ain't gonna happen". We have an opportunity to stand up for ourselves and our rights. How many have the backbone? If you purchase from or support anyone on this list, stop complaining.

I agree with everything you said. Our job is to go to work now on the thoughts you had, such as an expanded role for local government. We need to work at electing good people who will work on our behalf. Seems like most of the elected officials right now are working on their behalf. If I had known that was the best way to get rich I would have considered politics. Nah.
We have got to wake up the Republican party. Unfortunately that is us. I am going to try to be more active. I hope a lot of you will.

I guess I am a scum bag because I love my 501 jeans and cannot give them up!! Buy about 1 pair a year but the rest are no problem. Dannon will no longer be in our fridge! My wife will not be real happy but that is the way it goes!

Continue to support the cause with your expenditures! Keep the faith brothers!!

Nothing wrong with that SlowpokeRodriguez.
I suppose we will all have to strike a happy medium somewhere. In the past couple of years my wife and I have gone from Cox to Direct TV, Sprint to Verizon, get the news from Yahoo and stopped the newspaper, Circle K instead of 7 Eleven, Peets coffee rather than Starbucks, etc. etc. etc. The antis solicit money and support from these companies. It appears we need some new blood in the NRA to start doing the same.

It appears that based on the Pink Pistols list of anti-gun supporters; the only way we can stop giving support to these people is to hunt and/or grow our own food, make our own clothes and not go to church.

Not true 6BRonwheels.
Levis isn't the only jean manufacture, very few food suppliers are listed, and only a few religious organizations. People have been worshiping at home and other places of their own choosing since Gods creation of earth. It all boils down to what and how much we are willing to change in order to save our 2nd Amendment rights. One person can make a dent in the pockets of the antis. A multitude of the same will force these same people to redirect their contributions.

I will confess I felt vulnerable expressing thoughts here, as my opinion is not the popular view... Glad to read the civil, thought provoking & frankly, widely different points of view. To be honest, I was reacting to previous discussion with others & picking up here this a.m. in a random fashion. No slight intended re patriot, ism) remark. I have been exposed to new ideas today _ i can't say that happens everyday & it is appreciated.

I agree with JRS dont support companies that dont support the things you believe. Personally I think these companies are ridiculously stupid to involve them selves politically in anti gun, as they have no direct impact on there business. That is gross mismanagement of a companies assets.

There is so much of this kind of stuff, gross mismanagement of companies) going on that these big companies that are in trouble right now have no one to blame but themselves, and unfortunately we have to pay the price for them as the government cant afford to let them go under. And what is the most ridiculous is that their management are still multimillionaire living the good life. There needs to be some serious class action lawsuits against these !@#$s.

I think it must be remembered that Barack Obama only spent about 12 months in the U. S. Senate before he started his run for the white house. He would not be able to find the white house if he was not driven there by someone else. The real power behind this administration will be Nancy Pelosi, in the House, and Harry Reed, in the Senate. These two are the ones to keep your eye on. They are both far, far left of center, and vary, vary hard-core anti-gun, and vary, vary Pro United Nations. Obama will do what he's told by these two if he wants a second term.

You are right on Pelosi. Look who the presidents of GM, Ford, Chrysler, and the UAW met with today. It was not Obama. Nancy Pelosi is the lady with the stick right now, and she is scary.
We have got to generate a strong country, and a strong Republican party. I don't think we have a choice. I also have to agree that we must work with the new President, and do this whole thing in a legal, civil manner. I hope nobody is ready for a revolution yet.

I agree with not buying from sponsors of anti gun causes, however, I'm not so sure that I'm aligned with the other views and mission of http://www.pinkpistols.org/
Might want to take a look at their homepage.

Unfortunately, I didn't look before I forwarded the anti-gun organization link that was posted to all of my friends
