ORSA match questions

I finally found some bullets and hopefully they will be here first of the week. Since I have missed Butner, hope to make the match at Oak Ridge on 3/9 & 3/10.

Never been to ORSA and curious as to what to expect. How are the targets setup? Manual or electrical targets? Are there generally pullers for hire?

Since Oakridge is only about an hours drive, looking forward to shooting there.

Ken

Shot there a few times there last year and is a very nice range with manual targets that you will need to pull your self or bring someone with you to pull them. The guys there are laid back and great to shoot with and run a good match. I will be going back a few times this year to shoot the long range. Good luck.

I've been going there for the past three years. ORSA is a members only range but the matches are open to anyone that whats to participate. It's a beautiful well groomed but tricky range with manual targets that are extremely easy to pull by yourself. The matches run smoothly and a 3x match is typically done by 3 to 4 o'clock. Larry Sparks has been running the matches and does a fantastic job. Everyone is generally friendly and helpful.
If you get a chance to go, you will come back.....Here is the long range match schedule..Plenty of opportunity to shoot..

Big +1 to BRXBrad!!!!

This is an owsum range with the friendlist folks you could shoot with (excep brxbrad) , just kidden. ;) Good wind read'n is a must and it's good practice. Larry Sparks is a top notch Match directer bar none!!

Eta - Larry's last name. Folks need to know exactly who the great ones are and Larry is one of them.

eta-again- brxbrad is one of the good ones there at Oak Ridge..always helpful except when his buddy Harreld has too much chocklet milk... they get cranky...

Hope to see you guys there soon...

Miss shoot'n up there.

ORSA.

My home range.

I average about 2 trips there per week...about 800 round trips over the last 8 years....at 60 miles per round trip. Work up loads at the 200y benches, check them out at the 600y bench, shoot them at 600 or 1000y.

At $120 per year...about 3 boxes of Bergers....its the best membership deal in the USA (club owns the approx 900 acres...no lease to pay). We have quite a few out of state members.

Take note that every Monday afternoon during daylight savings time we start squading up about 4:30 to shoot informal 1000y....2 men each target....shoot an hour and pull buddy's target for an hour....go downtown and eat Mex afterward.

Sailertoo and Longranger.......

I hate to say I have to miss the ORSA match on the 9th. Planning on the regional at Memphis.

Any plans of you guys attending?

Hope to see ya there...

Brad

What time does the match start Saturday? All I can find us the schedule of dates.

My bergers get here tuesday so I will not have much load development time at all. I will basically have a one hundred yard zero and the velocity from my chrony.

Shooter has been pretty accurate so far as long as I have a good zero and velocity.

Again, anybody know what time it starts and I would like to be their early so I can meet a few people.

How much are the matches? Sorry to keep asking so many questions. Looking forward to being their! I have passed the entrance everytime we go wheeling at Windrock and allways wondered about ORSA.

Thanks Morpheus! I did noy have the ORSAHP link. just the orsa and the schedule.
The ORsAHP schedule had allthe match info I was looking for!

Ken

bronc, it's pretty laid back. Step one is just show up. I'm planning to shoot the 3x1000 Saturday, but I've got to travel Sunday so I won't be able to shoot the Palma match on Sunday

Remember guys the schedule includes Palma match on Sunday is open to all competitors. The weather forcast for this weekend is going to be in the upper 60's near 70 degrees. Can't wait...

So registration begins at 8:30 and the match begins at 10 for tomorrow?

Yes. we have been known to get started earlier but the range faces south. In the early spring and late fall the shadows are heavy and the sling and iron shooters cant see the targets (and the F'rs aren't much better off)

Tomorrow is going to be great, if the weather man is right Sunday afternoon is going to be a good day for wind calling. ;D ;D ;D
