I have a new 6mm barrel on its way to be chambered. Question is do I go with a 6x45 or a 6BR? This is for a back up gun for short range BR score.
I have a b 6br barrel but it is way to heavy to make weight, original reason for buying new barrel, but I like the low felt recoil of the 6x45 ( bad discs in neck).I have used a 6x45 in the past and it was pretty accurate just not sure if it could match the 6br.
What say all of you?

6 BR gives you more options, it has a lower node..... the other is limited by the fuel tank.

6 Grendel and 6 Grinch also fit the requirements.... I think the Grinch is touted as being as accurate as the PPC.

BR is easy, accurate and has another gear the 6X45 does not.

Easy question 6br. Back in 2002 when I attended the IBS short range school, roughly 60 participants, I shot a 6br. I believe everyone else shor a PPC. Up until the last target of the 3 day school I had the low agg. A fellow shoot a screamer on the last target we shot and edged me out of the agg by a thousanth or two. I learned he had been a regular IBS competitor for 5 years already Point is, you give up very little with a 6br. Bullet will depend on twist.

Recoil/neck problems.....just find a lower node, slower powder, keep fill level where you need it. As stated, you don't have the volume available for as many options

6 x 45 is just too tiny and slow for heavier bullets. To use you would need super-fast twist and throated way, way out. The BR is near perfect for the heavier bullets and twists in the 7-8" range. Way more velocity along with excellent ignition characteristics, way better than the 223 case necked up.

Make it a BRA and it is even better than a straight BR.

With second and third thoughts I decided to go with the 6BR.
This is because it may be used for a break down gun, you know when the one you are using breaks down you have a second to finish with or to let some one use if theirs breaks down.
I still like the 6x45 and maybe I'll swap one into another action and play with it to see what I can do.
What the hell it is only money, and this is bench rest after all.
