Opinions on what to purchase for electronic shooting earbuds

I am in the market for some shooting electronic earbuds, mainly for the reason that they are small and don't get in the way at all when pressing your head on a rifle. I have some over the ear electronic headphones currently and really like being able to talk with and hear people with them on and also keep the gun shots out.

I see pairs that have rechargeable batteries and ones that don't and it rechargeable is way to go (unless replacement batteries are really cheap). I would like to get bluetooth to listen to music lightly but if its a lot more for that feature, it isn't necessary. It seems when I read up on various buds, ALOT of people have trouble with the buds and I'm hoping to find a very reliable proven set that don't break the bank, but will pay more if needed.

Thanks for any help and experience that can be given.

Don

I put these in service recently and they are great.

You need to go into these sort of options with your eyes open. There are two basic ways these can go wrong and it takes only one of them to make the end result useless.

The first is poor electronic design where the chip is unable to capture and control the impulse before it is sent to the amp stage. Rifle reports are extremely brief ( less than 3 millisecs to peak intensity) so take a lot of controlling. Many top-end current digital hearing aid amps aren't capable of this.

The bigger concern is the quality of custom shells or earplugs to exclude damaging direct/unprocessed sound from the muzzle. Anything less than top quality ear impressions and a matching quality of lab processing for custom shells will ruin the final outcome. A leaky plumbing system into the ear canal will void any protection the amp is capable of.

I brought AXIL Ghost Stryke Essential Bluetooth Earphones and they were total rubbish. They amplified the shooters noise in on other ranges and all other ambient noises but yes they did cut the gunshot noise from me shooting. The audio quality was also terrible.
Gone back to foam plugs n muffs

I can tell you to avoid the Walker Silencers 2.0. Get what you pay for obviously. Battery life - horrible
Ease of Use - Horrible
Protection - mehhh....ymmv
Sent them back to Midway

I have had a pair of etymotic gun sport pro for 3 or so years now I love em. When they do kick the bucket I’ll buy a new set no question about it.

I can't answer your best earbud question, but highly recommend a quality in ear plug AND the highest dB reduction rated earmuffs you can find.

Most of the electronic ear plugs are only rated at 23-25 db. I was using the Caldwell E-Max Shadows (23 db) but they stopped working properly after 9 months or so and the controls were a PITA. I just got the Walker's Rope Hearing Enhancer plugs that are rated at 29 db and they are great! They only cost about 70 bucks so I would encourage people to try them!

The “Elite” version of these appear to be similar, if not exactly the same, as the Otto Noiz Barriers IIRC. Please correct me if I am mistaken

Exactly what I was thinking, they look identical.
Does anybody know how many charges to expect from the Elite version? I think they would be worth the extra $50 for the convenience of not dealing with those little batteries but if the rechargeables bite the dust in a year that would be a real bummer.
I have used a pair of Walkers and honestly don't use them much for hunting anymore. they aren't real comfortable and if there is any wind the background noise is almost unbearable.
Has anybody used both and can tell me if the Otto or Etymotic are significantly better?

The batteries in mine last about a week. Usually I have to put in new batteries before the next coyote hunt. So the more I hunt the more use I get out of a set. They are very clear and no buzzing or humming feedback noise

I bought a pair of the Peltor 3M ones a few years ago and have never looked back. Best ones I’ve tried. Expensive but worth it
