Opinions on Sightron scopes?

will be using it for 600 and 1k shooting only.

Pros and cons?

I have two and they are pretty good scopes. One performed well at the Arizona Palma Championship in F-TR, shot at 30X. The glass is not as good as my two Nightforce scopes, but adequate. The adjustment detents (unless Sightron fixed it) are soft and can easily be changed by bumping or placing in the case/bag without the covers. The focus is very fussy at 50X, progressively less so at lower magnification. If you can swing it, go the extra $350 and get a Nightforce BR 12-42. If not, the Sightron will likely do what you need. A bonus is that they are lighter than the NF BR but the sunshade is a brick at 5½ ounces. I don't know what they were thinking or if they were. The 10-50X60 is a reasonable value for the money.

In a word, yes.

I prefer the BR to the NXS (I have both) for known distance shooting. The objective focus is easier and seems more precise. It is probably because the diameter is larger and easier to move a small rotational increment. The BR also has ⅛ MOA clicks which help when obtaining a hard zero at long range.

My Pierce tactical rifle has the NXS where ¼ MOA clicks are adequate and the side focus is much handier for frequent adjustments.

Daveberg, I have a question for you, say i bought a new nightforce and used it and 2 weeks, later I didn't like it, do you think I could sell it for what I paid for it. cliffe
btw i have a 8x32 sightron and like it. clarity is about the same as leupold. what else is better than the sightron for the same money.... cliffe

I own four of them and can't be happier for the price I paid. The last one I bought is a 8-32x SIII and I paid less than $750 from Bear Basin. (They met a competitors Internet price - PM me if you are interested in who.) I would say the glass is outstanding; in the same league as the best Leupold I've ever looked through. Nightforce had better be superior glass, but it is hard for my eyes to tell much difference. All four of my Sightrons have tracked perfectly.

With that said my next scope will be a Nightforce. I always like to own the best of the best at least once.

I have owned one Sightron SIII 8-23 and it was exceptional I felt, especially for the cost vs Leupold. I only sold it to get a NF of the same power range. The glass was very nice still compared to my NF and never had any issues with tracking either. I did not loss my shirt to sell it, as it like most of the better manufacturers, they cover them for life.

I've had and still have quite a few of them and here is my input on them.

For hunting rifles: The 4-16 is a great scope, no issues and no complaints. I had 2 of the SII 6-24's a few years back that I sold or traded for Nikon Monarch scopes in similar power. The Sightrons in that power range were "hazy" at the higher magnifications. I hear they've taken care of that issue on then new SIII, but have not personally confirmed it.

For Target rifles: I have 3 of the 36x fixed on separate rifles and over the last 7 years I've had them, I never once felt disadvantaged by the scope when I entered a match. They have served me well.

One thing about all of them, they track almost flawlessly and repeatably. And they have a lifetime warranty.

Would I like to have a NF, yeah probably would like to have one, but I'm not 100% convinced that it would increase my scores enough to warrant the extra $$$. They ARE really nice scopes though. Just my humble opinion. WD

Hey DaveBerg, in comparison, a sightron to the nightforce was the clarity much better with the nightforce or the adjustment knobs not to your liking?
Wouldn't a variable power scope work better than a fixed power , to turn lower in power, on a sunny day? thanks for your input, cliffe
ps let me know when you want to sell a NF.
