Opinions needed on primers

Well Scott, I have shot the CCI br primers and liked them and I would shoot the CCI LR primers. Just before the Wolf LRM primers dried up I bought a bunch and I am down to my last 1000. The CCI's are easy enough to get a hold of, my LGS has them in stock, I was there yesterday. I ordered 5000 Sellior and Bellot LR a couple of months ago from Powder Valley, they sent me SR by mistake, I kept them figuring to use them in my .223 . Soon will make another order and get some LR primers with some powder.

Baddog,
Right now it's 100 yards. i hope to get to shoot 600 yard at Donaldsonville one day. For now, I'll just kepp trying to put 5 bullets in the same hole at 100.. considering they're all about the same price, i see no reason not to buy the best I can get my hands on.

Scott
Scott, I would get and test several different primer brands. You will likely find one that will give you better grouping than others. The quality of all the Fed, CCI, S&B I have used are great. But, with the particular rifle/charge/bullet/seating depth I am using usually one outshines the rest regardless of brand. Get a good assortment of the above and test, test, test

Sure I have no problems with s/b primers I just load a tiny bit hotter than if using cci primers....run it across your crono , it shouldnt take much to get you back up and running again.

How odd ... The Aberdeen Proving Grounds ; ( U.S. Army Testing Center ) periodically tests primers for awarding military contracts , and since 1958 , has ranked Winchester LRP as one of the most consistent of all primers tested . If you fired a 30/06 , M-14 , or M-60 while in the military , you were probably shooting Winchester primers in your issued rounds . And probably in your M-16 if you' a Nam Vet . I have been using them in my Mosin custom F-Open rifle for five years with zero negative effects . Zero ! My personal primer preference is S&B , both large and small , but alas ....They're not available anymore , except for stocks that were on hand before King Barrack banned them .

Im not going to argue with you over stupid stuff someone ask the ? So i answered it that i have NO problem with winchester primers but obviously ive been corrected! Thanks for your advise!
Not sure it can be categorized as a problem, but you are correct, Winchesters do have a higher brisance level. So if you are near or at max with the lower brisance CCI, you need to back down when switching to Winchester. If not, you can get into an overpressure situation.

Interesting, even if the thread is old.

Gentlemen,
I can no longer find Federal 210 primers locally. I can order them from Midway, who has them in stock, but that means a Haz Mat fee plus shipping. I can get Winchester large rifle primers and CCI large rifle primers pretty readily from 2 locations. Who likes what and why?

Thanks,

Scott
What are you loading?

Full disclosure, I've only used a couple thousand Win SR and no LR primers in my rifles. But I have used over 85,000 of them in my 45 ACP loads in the last 20 years or so. Realizing we're talking apples & carrots on pressures, but I have yet to have a failure on the 223's or 45's that is primer related.

down to my last 300 cci br-2 then I'm forced into using either WW LR or REM91/2 not happy with either choice, I guess I should be happy having a choice.
