Opinion, which is best 6mmBR or 6.5 x 47...

Just thinking of a 6.5 x 47, anyone shooting this cal?
Yes the brass cost more but so what, this is an expensive hobby.

I just built a 6.5X47 and I own two 6BR's. All are great.
The 6.5 is my new 600yd. benchrest gun.

What will be your use?

6.5 x 47 Lapua hands down! You can load 108 gr. Scenar bullets if you want little recoil, or 139 gr. Scenar's for maximum wind drift resistance! I have one and love it!

I went through last barrel using RL17, but with the new barrel I tested VV N550 and it looks really promising at 100 yards, need to stretch it out a bit and really see how it shoots but so far it looks great! 2900 fps. with 30" barrel and 139 gr. Lapua Scenars and ES in the single digits! I will post my load data and results as soon as I get to shoot it further out!

I would use the 6.5 for F-Class open at 300 meters and 600 yds. Hopefully I would like to go to Butner to try 1000 yds one of these days. My son lives in Raleigh. One shooter told me that you have to shoot both iron sights prone/sling and scope at Butner during a match, dont know if that is true.

Have you guys tried Berger VLD.

You would need a 1:8" twist. I don't know what freebore you would need for this set us as I only shoot 139's, but if you set up the 139's to be right above the shoulder/neck junction you will be able to get the 108's and 123's to work just as well.

The 6.5 has a ballistic advantage at 600 and beyond. The 6BR is known for outstanding accuracy. Most of the 600 yard records have been set with a 6BR or an improved version. The component cost of the 6BR is substantially lower.

Having said all that I will be shooting a 6.5X47 in competition this year.

I have been looking at the 6.5 x 47L, just for something different. I will just add a barrel to my gun. You may just have to have 2 barrel for your gun.

That would be true for conventional mid / long range but not if you shoot F-Class. Unless I missed something, F-Class is strictly an optics + front (sometimes rear too) rest category.

Usual practice for sling shooters is to have both iron-sight and any-sight matches in the program.

I was gonna re-chamber a 6.5 barrel for 6x5x47 but chose instead 260 REM for some reason. N550's also produced some initial, very pleasing results for me so I'm anxious for the seasons to change to bring back warm enough weather to shoot outdoors again.
