Opinion - Savage 11/111 FCNS

What is your opinion of this model with regards to quality, accuracy potential, reliability, and function in the field. It has the accu-trigger, accu-stock, 22" barrel, 6.9 lbs.

Never owned a Savage before but I have the opportunity to get this model in 243 for a very attractive price. I have a spare scope sitting in the closet that is crying to be put on a rifle. :)

"Never owned a Savage before"
Savages are like mopeds to some guys, here. I bought one to try, despite some "condescending opinions". It shoots great! Go for it!:)

I have several savage rifles and love them. Years ago they did lack in attention to detail, but for the last 20 years or so they have put out a great rifle. Actually most of the guns on the market today are pretty good. My main reason for choosing Savage over other brands is that the barrels are so easy to change and I am an avid wildcatter. But if you never change barrels you will still love it.

I dont have that exact model but i do have a mod 11 vt in 308 and an older mod 110 in 7 rem mag. I am very happy with both of them, they have both been accurate for what they are and both have been reliable for me. One thing i have noticed out of the rifles i own is that with my rem 700s the loads they dont like, they really dont like. With the savages i can get just about any bullet i want to shoot. Sometimes for the task at hamd you just want to shoot this or that bullet, and maybee i just hapens towork out this way with the few i have but my two savges have been very forgivig to load for.

Great rifles for the money.

I have several Savages in 243w, 7mm08, 308w, 300winmag, 17hmr & 22lr.

The best part about the short actions, the factory 4rd magaines take up to 2.995" coal.

The 243win have 9.25" twists but still handle 105grainers good enough.

I like the accustocks, very rigid, but for a hunting rifle are not necessary.

I have two "go-to" deer rifles and one of them is an FCNS in 7mm-08. It's a pleasure to carry and I am certain where the first two shots from a cold barrel will impact at 100yds if I do my part - 1.5" directly above point of aim and they'll be touching. It put some venison in the freezer a couple of days ago. One 139gr Hornady BTSP traveled about 130 yds and that was it. No muss, no fuss, no bother.

That rifle deserves the confidence I have in it. I say 'Go for it"!

I have a 111 in 9.3x62 - my only 'pick' has been the Accutrigger: when trying lighten the trigger pull using the factory tool, the sear doesn't set properly when slamming the bolt back & forward from the shoulder for follow-up shots in close cover - fortunately the bear was done from the first shot. I set it back up to the higher end of the range and it was good again.
Probably fixable w/aftermarket trigger.

I've given up on the savages and I have 2. They shoot pretty good right out of the box. When I stripped my rum action down and removed the mag and bolt, I noticed there is no metal there to support the barrel in between the 2 mounting holes. I had a factory 6.5-284 barrel the throat was so long I could barely touch the lands at all with the 140-142 bullets. About the only one that interests me is the 12 lrpv. Solid top and bottom. Seen a few bad barrels to, shillens that looked liked the stopped the reamer in the bore and chamber way banana shaped. It was a wildcat, they asked if I used factory ammo as reloaded ammo voids their warranty even if they messed the barrel up. If they reinforced the actions more, went with 8-40 screws so I could brace the top/scope I'd reconsider. But as said the lrpv in 6br and 22-250/9tw catches my eye
