Open up bolt face?

Hello everyone, I have a bat 2x10 in 300 win mag . I would like to make it a 338 Lapua someday. Can I open the bolt face up? Or will I need a new bolt? There seems to be enough meat in the bolt nose to make it happen but before I butcher a seven hundred dollar bolt I would like to get some opinions. Thanks , matthias

It would be a serious problem with the extractor the way it is, and I would not try it.
The 338 Remington Ultra Mag is your best bet, with the bolt you have..

After much debate, I built myself a .338 RUM over the Lapua. Not a huge difference between the two other than the cost of brass!

Unless you have access to a machine shop, and have a knoledge on how these are opend up, I would steer clear of it. That and as mentioned before, your extractor will need to be replaced, or possibly modified which can be a pain by itself.

Much easier just to go to the RUM.
