FLORIDA votes to approve open carry for CC holders January 12. 2016. Larry
There was a movie about a town that made it legal to open carry, about the only thing I remember was one character that wore a black shirt with a white tie and had two nickle Smith's in tan shoulder holders. In today's time , it might work in a small community, but you could be "cool" , open carry, and between store owners "greeting you with their own weapons and the law "drawing down on you" for just walking down the street, or being shot by some nut job to steal your weapon, I think, while it will be law, it won't be widely used. You know, I believe you have the constitutional right to do so. Open carry has always been legal in Iowa and I have never seen anyone carry open. I'm not sure how many people are going to strap on a hog leg and go to the grocery, although they will have the right to. Law enforcement has always frowned on open carry in Iowa as it "scares people". Probably does in big cities but I doubt rural people would even notice.
Anyway, I hope it passes, it is already your right to carry open.

I think it is legal due to the "Keep and bear arms" part of the 2nd A. But then I'm kind of a stickler over that constitutional stuff....Sadly, open carry is not your right. In many states it is illegal. I had his riches ion years ago in Arkansas while visiting for Christmas. They had concealed carry but open carry was actually against the law.
In Wisconsin open carry has been legal but up until a few years ago it was illegal to conceal carry. It cause some problems with police that didn't know the law and the state DA had to send a letter to all departments explaining how they were to handle open carry and that it was not disorderly conduct to be carrying openly and refusal to produce ID was not a crime if the person wasn't doing anything except carrying a gun.
I agree with some that carrying open is not the best situation as it garners undue attention and can make you as much of a target as it would deter crime. However, if open carry was the only thing allowed I would consider it a better option than being unarmed.
Keep in mind, I didn't say it scared me, but city folk get sort of panicky about it.The "TRUTH" is that us "people" all have a "choice" of thought about anything. Nothing can "scare people" that they don't "choose" in their mind that reaction/response.....which is a free choice. Minds do become "conditioned" like Pavlov's dog when people do not want to take responsibility for their own thinking. Hollywood, the media, and other established entities have done their best to "condition" the minds of the people for many years so it's really no wonder. There needs to be an "awakening". IF Law Enforcement believe that open carry "scares people", they must believe that ALL minds are "conditioned" by now. I think a lot of Law Enforcement are smarter than that....at least I hope so.
Here you can't ever have the gun be visible . If it is you can be arrested. The only way that is covered is open carry. That we the way it was sold. LarryKeep in mind, I didn't say it scared me, but city folk get sort of panicky about it.

I don't think it has to do with what a LEO "believes". The sad fact is that More and more people are scared when seeing an open carry without a uniform behind it. The call goes out and officers have to respond, taking them away from more important duties. If you live in a small town, people will know you. Where I live, most people don't. Given the current social climate, open carry around here would garner lot's of undesired attention. I agree that it's wrong. It just is. There isn't much hope of changing attitudes in my state as only about 5 percent are gun owners, last I checked.
Can you please supply a link to the confirmation, please?
Correct. LarryConfirmation? The original post said "votes to approve"...it didn't say it approved it.
A simple google search for "FLORIDA votes to approve open carry for CC holders January 12. 2016" comes up with only 4 hits before moving on to other subjects.
You check who elected him and you will find they don't like guns. All are Obama voters.I hope it passes. As a ccw permit holder in St.Petersburg I believe in the right, but would never do so personally for "tactical" reasons. Then you have clowns like Pinellas County Sherriff Bob Gualtieri, who says he's going to shoot open carriers in the back and will instruct his officers to rough up legal citizens who open carry. I am very pro LE, but I hope the first person to get hassled by PCSO sues the pants off of Bob personally for making such irresponsible comments and creating an environment that is threatening to some of Florida's most law abiding citizens.
