Oops!!!

After 40 years of doing this you would think I would check things! Just prepped 150 cases for my 6BRX .
sized, primer pockets etc. just checked and I guess my die some how got changed, but I set the shoulders back 5 thou. too far! If I seat my bullets to a 5 thou. Jam can I get by with this one time screw up? If it counts for anything I anneal after every firing. Help me tell me I didn't ruin 150 fireformed cases!!!!!!!!

I don't see a problem. All you're going to do is fire form them back into spec. I would seat your bullets as you normally do. Your target probably will not notice the difference. Ray

You MAY (may not also) notice a little difference in accuracy>>> but your brass may take a bit of a beating being slammed up against the shoulder of the chamber... But it will survive and so will you! LOL!!!

Ok Ben, you're going to have to explain that one.

Ok Ben, you're going to have to explain that one.

With 5+K of room to expand, under 55,000+p.s.i. it will move in a nano-second and it has no where to go but to land up against the chamber walls... It will also land hard against the bolt-face and probably slightly crater the primers... But the brass will be none for the worse... How's that for an explanation my good fellow!!

If I told you, ON THIS SITE, what happened to me (my brass) you would not only jab me to death, you would start watching the same Sci-Fi channel!! Hehehehe....

Do you normally shoot with your bullets jammed? If so then no big deal since the jam will center the brass and hold it against the bolt face. If not then reduce the load some. (more pressure with jam) as you know.

Jvon, You definitely need to seat the bullets into the lands or you will not get some of the primers to go off. I made the mistake of sizing my cases .001 back and it cost me bid down at Ben Avery this February. You will often pierce a primer, which I found out is common with this cartridge. In my case with a Panda action it always brings that little piece of primer back inside the bolt. I even had two bolts but had to tear one apart after they both got fouled. It seems the slightest setback on a shoulder can cause this. You need to keep the case in contact with the bolt face. Bring your bolt tool with you to tear you bolt apart when/if this happens and knock that piece of brass out. I had left mine in the motel room for some reason. After being clean for two relays and about 14 rds I had a nice breakoff about 5 minutes and came back with an 8, then shot a few more 10-x's and had another 5 minute break to follow with a 9. That last one put me in 4th. At least I learned a good lesson.

FWIW, My FL die for 6.5-285 sets the shoulder back 0.005" (unless I use an alternate shell holder...) from a the max that my chamber will allow it to grow.
