This morning my wife let my 4 German Shorthair's out. Like all mornings they went to their favorite places to find lizards or birds. ;D A big ruckus happen behind the shrubs. She seen our male was fighting and chasing something. When she got to the shed she seen it was a OTTER. 3 foot long. After a big struggle she got the dog off of him. The dog had blood all over him . None of it was the OTTERS. .
Our yard has a chain link fence with a wood fence in front. The only pond or ditch is a mile away. Nothing but houses in any direction for over two miles. ;D When the vet ask where it happened Wife told in our fenced back yard.
He said ONLY IN FLORIDA ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D Hope this true story put a smile on your face.. ;D

Make sure their rabies shots are up to date. Other than that the dog should be fine. Weasels are tough little buggers.

Better an Otter than a gator. My high school in Pinellas County had a little farm pond where Albert lived. He'd come out sometimes, chase the girls into the gym and hiss at the coaches when they tried to shoo him back into the water. Eventually, Fish and Game came and took poor Albert to a better place, maybe where there were some other gators. He had that pond to himself.

Trust me I know what a weasel is . In 1954 I had a very small trap line I caught one . it was the best day of my life. When I got home and showed it to my great grand dad thinking it was mink. What would of ben

I had a ferret one time that was bouncing around in a yard, when the owners black lab came up snarling. That ferret planted his back legs in her neck, her front paws in the eyebrows and as the dog took off was seen chewing on the dogs nose. They got along fine after that though.

Don I have seen them all over hunting but none as close as 30 miles from my house. To find one in your double fenced back yard. ;D ;D Is not very common. ;D ;D Not only was he in my back yard . He whipped my 70 LB GSP dog so bad we had to take him to the vet. That should be a laugh for every one. Only in Florida.

Here is a few problems home owners have had to deal with in Florida. Wild hogs, Panther ,Coyotes , Bear, Gators ,Piranha, Tilapia, Walking cat fish, Pythons, Iguanas, Monkeys . I never have had any above.

40 years ago While fishing off the old light house pier at Egmont I watched a White shark take a big Ray. Didn't a Bull shark get a swimmer in your area ? Larry

I've been in San Diego since the late 70's but I read about two attacks in Boca Ciega Bay that were almost certainly Bull Sharks. Boca Ciega is shallow, warm and murky, just what they like. [br]
Our problem out here is that Great Whites have been appearing much more often since the state forbid people to bother California Sea Lions. They've been multiplying like crazy and, where there are Sea Lions, there are Great Whites. It's their favorite food. [br]
Getting back to the Otters: I've seen some up the coast around Tarpon Springs and New Port Richey. They can get pretty big. I wouldn't want my dog messing with one.
