One Piece Scope Mounts……worth it?

I’ve been shooting quite a bit of PRS type shooting the last few years and one thing I notice is a lot of the rifles have a single piece mount for the optic they are using.

I’ve learned enough about PRS competitors to know that if it’s expensive they’ll buy it no matter if it’s worth it or not.

So……is a single piece mount worth the cost? Like a spurh or the MPA single piece?

Do they have any advantage over a two piece ring set?

I would look at it this way; Does your current optical setup hold it zero between trips to the range?

If the answer is yes your current setup is adequate and you do not need a one-piece optical mount.

There will be some shifts in zero from trip to trip expected due to changes in things like temperature and barometric pressure. The shifts in zero should be small enough that the sighters allowed at the beginning of the relay in an F-class match.

The argument usually advanced for one-piece bases/rails is that they are less susceptible to moving in the event of a drop or hard impact. In the end, I guess the scope's mechanicals are just as likely to be affected by a serious lateral impact.

I’m loooking at this for a PRS rig.

The guns I shot f class with all had 2 piece rings and I was happy.

Probably over thinking it but a guy does bang the gun around a lot more shooting these PRS matches.

A one piece mount tends to hold the Optic more firmly in a more
volatile environment where things get banged around a lot...question is are you
the guy who's always having to adjust your zero...or are ya usually good to go.
I do not shoot PRS but I have seen many PRS Competitions and know people that do that claim
there is a plus side to a one piece mount in almost any categorie..as always only you can decide this.

Never had an issue with my scope moving in a quality set of rings shooting matches. Been shooting them for 20 years now. Tried a few one piece set ups and they have their place if you want to add some moa to the rifle but if your scope is held secure in your rings now you won’t gain anything with a one piece.

I do not shoot PRS; I shoot XTC so my experience may not be relevant.

I use a one-piece single lever mount by BOBRO Engineering. The scope lives off the gun in a LaRue bag($). When I am on the firming line the scope comes out of the bag and goes on the gun during the preparation period and comes of the gun at the end of the day and back in the bag. When I clean the gun after the match it is convenient not to have the scope on the gun. The BOBRO mount is a quality product($) and if you have a quality rail($) the zero repeats, Casing the gun for transport and storage of the gun without a scope is a lot easier and simpler.

Larue makes a similar mount if I recall....Bobro is a great product too.
The ones I have are not quick change however and made by Geissele.

I have one of these and it has been completely dependable....A lot of options are available for ring size and MOA.

Rick

I wouldn't use a quick detach mount or rings on a PRS rifle. No reason to. You mount the optic and want it to stay where it's at. If you wanted to try a one piece I would use the ARC above or an MDT or a MPA BA etc. The Spuhr are nice but more money and doesn't really offer anything more. When I needed a new set of rings I bought a MDT one piece used from a buddy as the price was right and it was there. It works great but doesn't hold the scope any more solid than my Seekins rings have since I started using them in 2005. Badger Ordnance, Nightforce and Warne Mountain Tech rings have all held my scopes solidly.

I have been running NEAR mounts for years. They are excellent. No complaints on the quality or the business!

I really like Hawkins new rings and mounts too. Good stuff and good people.

That being said, used Badger, Mark4 or Nightforce rings have never failed me for +/- $100.

Although, I don't shoot PRS maybe my guns don't get thrown around much but I do have optics mounted on heavier recoil guns all without brakes, they are hunting guns. For my hunting guns I normally use the old-style leupold rings and bases and these have held up without failure on a 416 Taylor, (2) 375 Rugers, and a 9,3 x 63 (a tame puppy by comparison).

I don't worry about my optics shifting when these guns ride in the back of trucks or 4 wheelers as we careen through the woods while on the way to hunting locations.

Just buy a set of Seekins rings and don’t worry about it. I won’t ever be caught with a $400 one piece mount. (The Seekins part is important.)

I bet my 6BR has been on literally 1,000 days of hunting trips, rode in many a Varmint chair and side by side all night long and I have never had to move it not one single click. It’s been 1/2” high at 100 yards since 2018.

Some things are just made to create enough anxiety to be purchased. Check out the rings on a 6PPC sometime. They don’t look like they’re worth 50 cents to me, but obviously they work.
