One of my permanent rifles just got a cool paint job

So I never let on I was doing a stock for @Dusty Stevens, but I did put up a few shots in a thread for best way to hold a stock for painting.
I was waiting on his response to the quality of my work.
I sprayed it once but I personally wasnt happy with the color match to the action, so I sanded it down and whipped up the copper color for round 2.
It's not easy to match a color from a picture on my phone.

I think he likes it!
I know I do!
Like Dusty said I'll treat you right!

Gents
I’ve been following my buddy BCz through this project, a great guy doing great work for great people.

I can hardly wait for the next project.
Best Regards
Jim

Hmm! Who knew? Nice job. I’m making a yellow stock that I’d like to clear cote. It’s birch laminate so it has lots a holes. I was thinking of rattlecan clear, cause I’m a cheap sob. What would it cost?o_O

Josh my local supplier can put automotive paint products in aerosol spray cans.
Depending on products even catalyzed.
I'm supposed to have a couple pieces of fancy wood show up today for a die job.
I'll be working with a different substrate and product than I'm use to, but that's the challenge for me, and way more fun than a VW bus.

You'd be amazed what you can do with something like Varathane in a spray can. I have a walnut pistol grip I made in '73 that still looks good as new.

You can also buy two component clear coat in spray cans.https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0043B7UQY/?tag=accuratescom-20

How to:
Aeromax is the cans I was referring to.
Having the ability to go into automotive paint store and pick your colors from thousands of color chips helps a DIY guy out.
If your local jobbers offers color matching you can have it tinted to match what ever your repairing.
FYI, aeromax rattlecans have the absolute best patern I've ever seen in an aerosol can.

I think any ppg dealer can put automotive clear in a rattle can. my brother owns a ppg dealership and he has done it for me several times.

Aeromax has been out quite awhile, great way to get a top quality finish without having to have a compressor and paint guns.
Although it can be limiting.
To keep it shooting related think
Factory vs custom

Paint talk is foreign to me. I just tell my brother what I want and he does it for me. I've had him spray auto clear with his gun and compressor on several of my stocks too and it holds up very well. Its impressive how it kinda melts into itself as it dries.

You probably already know this or when you hear it, it'll make perfect sense, but do NOT use heat on a wood stock. Ask me how I know.
The first one I did, was in the winter time and I wanted to speed up the clear. BAD mistake was putting a quartz lamp on it. Moisture came out of the stock and gave it a severe case of chicken pox....but the clear locked up really fast!
That was no fun to fix, either.

Or fiberglass!!
Air cure on these stocks I believe is the ticket.
I allowed 4 days drying time on Dusty's and still had it shipped out in 10 days.
