One of a kind...Pics

Joe C

Student of the 1911.
Thought some of you here would be interested in what I've been up to lately...

I never thought I would get to build a gun like this. It was a fun project and is truly a unique pistol that is going to a wonderful friend and client. The gun incorporates a lot of design elements from other guns I've built and they came together nicely to create a one of a kind package.

On the top is a long slide in the style of my Black Knight with the tri-cut slide. The rear sight has been buried as deep as it can go without a dovetail. The front sight is a seamlessly blended dovetail. The top of the slide is also stippled and Aztec pattern cut. The sides of the slide have been cut with my Pinstriper pattern making it only the third such gun I have done to date that is blued. The front and rear of the slide have hand filed bevels and the rear of the slide as well as the front of the custom made recoil plug have been stippled. The barrel is a Kart .45acp NM barrel fit to match tolerances with a cone threaded on in lieu of the standard bushing. For those interested, the slide I.D. is .702" and the cone O.D. is .7015" and this gun shoots incredibly.

The frame has stippling and Aztec pattern cuts on the front strap and MSH. The magwell was hand filed to square corners. The grips were done in York Gum by Brian Challis at Challis Grips (Brian works with amazing different kinds of wood!) The thumb safety is a Barry Greyson design that has been stippled on top (Thanks Barry for making me some in carbon steel!). The slide stop is a Greider/CCP modified as is the magcatch, trigger and plunger tube.

Trigger components are C&S Ultra match hammer, sear, disconnector and TM strut. The trigger is set at a short roll for 3lb 8oz with the adjustment screw in the S&A mainspring housing to go up to 4lb 8oz.

There are many other features of the gun but I'll just let the pictures do the talking from here. And by the way, the last picture in the set also contains the CCO that was built recently. I thought they would look good together being as opposite in size as they are.

Thank you for looking and I hope you enjoy the pics!

Very nice work! I always enjoy looking at quality craftsmanship. You are a very good photographer also.

Thanks everyone for the kind words. I'm glad you have enjoyed seeing this project after completion.

damn. I think I'm going to go throw my 1911 in the garbage now.

And Jaychris, if you are going to do that, I have three large round cans here and one large square one. Just let me know which one you use please... ;-)

Craftsmanship of this type is rare indeed. More a labor of love, but still.....you need to be a master "machanic" to know where you are going with each and every step.

great work indeed.
