One more reason to love the 6BR...

You never have to trim them!

I measured some 3x fired cases last night for length

All had been FL sized with a Harrell Custom die with 0.001-0.0015" shoulder bump every time

All were loaded HOT all 3 times 1x 31.4gn varget, and 2x 31.2gn R15

The Case length still averaged 1.556 just like they did when they were new!

This adds to my KISS testing, cause I HATE trimming!

Good news about the length. I don't like spending any time trimming cases either. How're the primer pockets doing? You hot-rodder! :)

If I am not mistaken I have had reloads @ 5x's and there was no sign of growth. I ended up trimming them down so I could get the little nicks out of the few cases that were. I had hoped they would grow to 1.560". I don' think there was a chance of that ever happening.

Yeah, the 6mm BR is about the most perfect round I've ever fired. Extreme accuracy, easy to load, superior Lapua brass, and low recoil. Right now I'm shooting a 1 in 14" Hart with 65 grn. V-Maxes, Bergers, & Hammonds. It does well with 68 grn. Fowlers, Starke Red Praries and 70 grn. Nosler B.T.'s. I've shot as far as 300 meters with excellent accuracy. I'm thinking about some other rates of twists, maybe 1 in 10") for 87 grn. Hornady V-Maxes. This is for live varmint shooting and informal bench. Any ideas?

Chino -- IMO, there is no reason to shoot anything slower than an 8 twist, unless you want to play the point-blank BR game). If you are shooting varmint bullets anyway, the precision "lost" with a faster than optimal twist will be lost in the noise.

YMMV,

1000 yd. editor,
Thanx for the reply. This rifle is a trued Remington 40X single shot with a sleeved bolt that I bought for a decent price and already had the Hart 1 in 14" barrel attached. The general concensus seems to be to go with a 1 in 8" twist. I've read that .080 to .090 freebore is a good choice and will cover most varmint rounds up to approx. 87 grns. My question would be, would this be a good tolerance to specify, for freebore, or should I send several cases with bullets seated to the gunsmith? The max. I will be shooting with this particular barrel will be 87 grn. but I would still like to shoot everything under down to 65 grn. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Oops, mis read your Q...

80-90thou FB sounds about right for the 87vmax... I'd err towards the shorter side...

My FB is .113 and I could get away with a bit less even with the 105/107

106CRs have about 80thou less bearing surface than the 105/1-7 so seat much further out in the necks FYI...

I envy you guys that have the oal of 1.550,my chamber was cut with the original 6br Remington reamer which has an oal of 1.520.
We then ran a 22br Norma reamer into the chamber to get the Laupa brass dimensions for the rest of the case but I have to trim to 1.520 but it only sucks the first time I got to trim new brass.

I have 55s that won't touch the lands but they keep going in the same hole! I guess I'll leave them alone! ;)
Anything bigger, I can jam and still get the same results.
Just got to love that 6BR! :D

Chris---dunno...havent chunked any yet...just about thru my third cycle with my batch of 300 cases...since MARCH!

PP's still tight as new ;)
