I have a 44 Mag rifle and revolver. Can I reload the same for both of them or should they be different. I want them for hunting and protection in the woods. Can Hornady® FTX® bullets lever gun be used in both, if not what is suggested. I have a 2003 second edition Modern Reloading by Richard Lee. This book seems to be well out dated. What would be a good up to date book to get.

I did 200gr XTP with AA9 because it gets more velocity over H110/W296. Use the same round for both carbine and handgun. I loaded to handgun pressures and the carbine shoots them faster, naturally.

The nice thing about 44 Magnum is that it's a very standardized cartridge, as opposed to something like 45 Colt for example. There aren't different levels of pressure, so regardless of Rifle or Pistol it will be at 36,000psi maximum.
The Rifle loads typically take COAL into considerations since there are a great many leverguns that won't cycle longer than 1.600, revolvers don't have that distinction.

My .44 Mag rifle likes really heavy bullets and charges, as in 300 gr. XTP and VV N-110 powder. Don't think I'd like to shoot this combination in any of the pistols I've tried. Might be good for a one last chance bullet in a pistol.

Check out the Hodgdon website for more load data. I love my .44 with 240 grain bullets and H110 - that can also be used in my rifle.
I have found that for my Super Redhawk 7.5 bbl that is shot PHENOMENAL with hornady 180 xtp,.starline brass, 31.0 gr (MAX!!) H 110 AND FED LG PISTOL PRIMERS.
tears one big hole at 50 and already killed a die at 89 yards, bang flop last week.
It's hot, just beginning to flatten primers so I stopped at 31.0
But omg it shoots great and kills instantly.
