Olympic 10m Air Pistol would be fun. What Pistol should I get?

I hope you all enjoyed my title. I mean it in part as a joke, and in part seriously.

I am still in my 20s and love target shooting and want to begin 10m air pistol competitions and to practice seriously.

I am considering the Walther LP500 Expert, the Morini 162EI, and the Steyr LP10.

The Morini options are compelling because of the seemly useful information that can be gleaned from the app which it can work with. Plus these pistols seem available while the other options from Walter and Steyer appear to be harder to find for sale.

Are there other options I should consider? What would you pick?

Thank you, Phill

The only ones I've tried are the lp10. It's a nice pistol but I can't compare to the others. You may be better served asking over at targettalk.org.

The FWB 65 was top gun back in the 70s, when i was a Beeman dealer.

Always buy the best equipment you can afford, was my sales pitch to sell the $500 pistol. Worked a few times. ;)

In reality, only the Master Class shooter in ISSF will benifit from the best equiment.

It was called ISU back in the 70s. My scores/clasification didnt improve much, if at all with the FWB 65.

So i started sandbagging. :D Win 2, loose 1 to stay in sharpshooter class. (Cash prize)

Currently shooting a Beeman P17 Pellet Pistol & Remington Vantage 177 air rifle in the basement, for fun. Great when it 15 degress with 20 mph winds, outdoors.
At 80, to shakey for competition.

I use a Steyr LP-10.

I formerly used a Walther LP-300, and a Matchguns MG-1, that I really, really, liked.

ANY of the current makers, to include the above plus Pardini, Feinwerkbau, & Morini are going to serve you well.

The single most important thing is to find a grip size that fits your hand well. An ill fitting grip will induce aiming errors, sideways movement upon triggering, and discomfort when shooting long strings (matches are 60 record shots, plus sighters).

As this user has found over and over again, "buy once, cry once" rings true.

Good luck!

Air pistol is a lot of fun if you're up for the challenge. Very little gear needed to do it is a big advantage. It sounds like you are approaching it to be competitive someday. My advice would then be to only dry fire it for the first month or two. Work on the trigger pull and follow through after getting your grip right as @dc.fireman mentioned. I bet a Morini or Walther would be great. I use a Steyr LP-10E and have no complaints. I clawed my way to low 550s to low 560s a few years ago but the Steyr certainly wasn't holding me back from the 570s and 580s.

All are great guns. I have an FWB P8 and a Morini 162EI. Both shoot better than I can, main difference is the FWB has more adjustability in the grip and trigger set-up. Other considerations are long or short cylinder, and if you want to take a rasp to the walnut grips. It affects all the balance. If your not set-up for PCP then consider single stroke gun. A used IZH-46 or an Air Venturi V10.

This is good info. Thank you all!

Are any of these top performing pistols known to be more or less reliable or require more servicing than others? I have heard the regulators on Steyr pistols can be a bit finicky?

Thanks you, Phill
