Old vs New Lee hand primer tool...

So my old Lee hand primer gave up the ghost... it was used when I bought it 20 years ago and has been a good tool ESPECIALLY for the price.

My question is, the "new" tool doesn't include the shell holders. Are they the same Lee primer shell holders from the old tool? I don't see an answer on their web sight and search didn't come up with any results here other then A LOT of pissing about the best tool (which is always the one you own... shocker).

I already know I am going to hate their folding trays but it's not like they make the old tool any more and I already have all the holders (if they work).

Thanks!

I had a new one fail just like that.

Unless you go back to the original ones that screwed in, all the slide in ones are the same. I didn't have very good luck with the feed portion of the new folded tray system. Whenever I encountered a difficult to seat primer, I would hear a crack and the feeder would break. I would collect them until I had 3 broken ones and send them back in for replacement. Keep a copy of your original bill of sale or they will not cover them. And the warranty period was 1 year. But in a year, I could break at least 9 of them. Both large and small systems. Ridiculous.

I'm going to give it a go then if they are the same shell holders. In the mean time will keep a lookout for an old school one. I think I paid $10 at a swap meet for it.... I can't fathom the cases of primers that have been through it. Kinda sad it broke. Thanks!

I might have an old one lying around. If you want I’ll look for it.

My experience with the "new" Lee primer tool of 10 or so years ago was less than impressive. Frequent jams and failure of the plastic "spring" made it unusable.
I purchased one from Frankford Arsenal and never looked back.

I have heard it’s a good tool

I've been happy with my old "round tray" type for years now. Got lucky at a gunshow awhile back and got another one in the box -- cheap. So I should be good to go for the rest of my old age. I leave one set up for large primers and my old faithful for small. jd

I primed literally thousands of cases with 2 of the old round Lee hand primes one set up for SRPs the other for LRP's. .When the square primer tray came out I didn't feel it was an improvement but it still worked for me, When the old ones finally failed and the new basket holder proved a PPOS, I went with Frankfort Arsenal's system and never had any problems. They work just like the old Lee's but are much sturdier.
