old technology still works

I just have to tell this story. I have a 94 Swede 6.5x55 that is 100 years old. I bought it a few years ago and restocked it, ( serial numbers did not match and it was hacked up) but I wanted one so I did it. It has a Leupold 2x7 compact on it, and I use for deer hunting. I have read they were originally designed for 160 gr rn bullets. I have been using 140's, but had a box of 160 Hornady rn's. I tried 45 and 46 gr of RL22 with this bullet, seat to 3.289 oal including nut. 46 grs was the winner with the first 3 shots going into 1.08. The second three went into .741, and yesterday the third test sent three into .474 all at 96 yards. It has the military barrel on it that I got it with, and was probably updated at some point in its life. Brass was Herter's that I got with the rifle. Just proves to me that these old guys knew something about building a great rifle. Barlow

This thread need some picture for the guys at the sitting at a desk, knowing deep down that they need to be shooting.

this
especially since google don't know

That's great news. I have an M38 I'm shooting factory rounds in, till I make enough empties to load. The Swedes are great old guns. Thanks for the data. I'm about ready to start loading some up.

JoshB, Do some measuring as I am sure there are chamber variances.
Rick, They look like Sharps, are they original or new, and what are they chambered in.

Thanks for the concern. I already have the Hornady case for my gauge. Always check the chamber and lands. I bought 300 horny 140s. Also going to try 100V in it. Reports are good, for that powder too. We really should keep quiet about it. I'd like to pick up a couple more before everyone finds out about them.😉

RMulhern, I have a Shilo 45-70 with a full military stock and patch box along with 3 Browning BPCR's 40-65, 45-70,
45-90 that I've used for BP silhouette. The 45-90 was also shot out to 1,000 yds at Camp Butner. The modern versions of old rifles are a joy to shoot and the white smoke adds to the experience.

94 Swede's are lovely actions. I've worked on and barreled quite a few over the years. Be very careful with your loads. The actions tend to be soft and are very susceptible to lug set back. It would be a good idea to consider sending it out for heat treat. Unfortunately I've seen more that set had set back than not.
