old style 40X triggers

I've got an old style 40X trigger, complete with the bolt locking arm and the adjustment screw in the trigger shoe. I'm wondering about adjusting the pull weight. Should I use the screw in the shoe, or the one in front?

thanks, but mine is different than the one described. The adjustment screw is actually in the shoe itself, and not in front. I'll hold off messing with it until I can get it into the proper hands.
