Old Ruger 77 22-250

Any suggestions on good hand load have tried a few with H380 but cant get any better groups than the factory loads. Help please

Try using a 52 or 53gr Hornady HPBT bullet. It is what my grandpa has been using in all of his 22-250's over the years. I do not remember if it is 52 or 53 but it is the BT bullet. I know he is pushing them pretty darn hard so I do not know how much powder he is using but I would say near max.

My 22-250 likes almost anything 50 gr ballistic Tips, Sierra 52 or 53 match Just loaded some 50 gr V Max & Nosler 52 BTHP Match. Best powders for me Win 748 & IMR 4895& CCI 200 Primers. I'll check my loads tonight and post tommorow want to say 34.8 grains

Howdy ! Those M-77s are nice guns.

Load wise... H380 Iconsider a tad too fast for 22-250.
I gravitate towards higher/highes density.
For this reason, I recommend you try a little bit slower powder
like VV24N64, WW760, H414 etc.

Also, try heavier bullets, like Horandy 55gr SX,
Sierra 55 Blitz et al.

If you have barrel life left, you probably would benefit from
use of an after-market trigger; to obtain a lighter pull
I put a "single-set" Canjar on my M-77 .250-3000.
The trigger had a shoe that you would push forward, whihch then set trigger let off to aroudn 40z. Used normal fashion, the trigger ran about 4lb pull. For the money and ease of installation, you should consider this idea.

The trigger change was the single biggest improvement I made to the M-77. no bedding, no pillars. The gun responded.

Also, as regards load prep. If you don't outside neck turn your brass, you oughta start...along with all the other case prep steps you read about.

If you still have $$$, youmay want to start using a busing neck size die. Hornady's " Custom Grade New Dimension " dies are super !. You can call Lonnie Hummel in their Custom Die Dept, if youhave any questions. The neck busings are WIlson-style,and you can change these to vary neck squeeze & bullet tension. I have nto yet had a rifle that didnot respons favorably to use of bushing neck sizing, esp since it allowed me to fine-tune to the best squeez for the load/gun.

Hornady's " uni " style bullet seaters are also great tools, and cost if a bargain. Add their " Micro-just " seater top
and you're good-to-go.

Best of luck in your endeavors.

Sorrry it took so long had to look at some targets, 33.8 & 34. grains of IMR4895 shot the best with 36.5 grains of Win 748 right behind the 748 burns dirty compared to the IMR4895. These shoot 3/8 consistently out of my Rem 700 w/ Pac Nor 24 inch barrel. This gun shoots any of the good 50 -53 grain bullets well. These loads are fine with no pressure any time of the year for me bear in mind our summer temps are only 70 -75 deg F. Work up easy on a warm day if its hot where you are.
