Old Remington 150 gr. Round Nose 6.5 bullets

Has anyone had or seen these bullets, very old slip top boxes, with bullets all stood on end, look like the old military 156 gr 6.5x55 fmj with cannelure way down by the heel but they are round nose soft points. Neat looking bullet going to load in the 6.5x55, haven’t found any data yet.

Dang!
I didn’t even think of that! I guess I can bury the cannelure and send em out of the Swede‍♂️. Thanks for the plumb up!

Be sure and measure the diameter of those bullets. The Carcano used a slightly larger diameter bullet than .264 it was .267 of which Hornady still makes one. I would not try in the Swede if it is .267. I had an old friend now gone because of cancer that had a sported Swede carbine with the between 17 and 18" (metric measurement) barrel. He used the 160 gr SP that Sierra made with IMR 4064 but I don't know how much. I do know that at TN mountain ranges that bullet would pernitrate until the cows come home and killed every deer he shot with it dead with one shot. I was given a handful of these bullets which I played with in a 96 Swede using AA4350 and they shot good but never hunted with any. I have a 96 Swede that some bubba had started hacking on that I cot very cheap and sported it. I made a new bolt handle shaped to work with a scope. Drill and tapped for scope and added a Bold trigger that is adjustable and has a slide safety. I put it into a Tupperware stock. I decided to leave the long 29" barrel on it because with that long barrel and using slower burning powders I can get some really high velocity and still be under the pressure limit of the small ring Mauser. I use AA 4350 with a book max load from the Accurate Manual with 120 gr Nosler Ballistic Tips and Sierra Pro Hunter and get just a touch over 2900 fps and with 140 Sierra Game King or Hornady Interlock I get 2800 fps. I have used this rifle with all the bullets on deer in east NC over bean fields and such and they killed deer dead on the spot most of the time and those that did move out of their tracks did not go but a jump or two. Most of my shot were under 500 yards. I would sight in the rifle to hit 3" high at 100 yards with each load before hunting. I could hold in the center of the front shoulder out to 300 yards and not worry about the yardage because the bullet did not rise or fall much over 3". From 400 to 500 I could hold just at the very top of the shoulder and they were dead. I have a few of the full military Swedes and with open sights they shoot better than the average Joe's scoped deer rifle. Oh, loaded up some 100 gr Sierra HPs to 3000 fps and shot some ground hogs. Looked like shooting a water balloon filled with red paint. WICKED

You know, I did happen to mic those bullets, and to my surprise they measured an even .260”!?! The only cartridge I could find that used that diameter was a 6.5x70R and I don’t have one of those yet‍♂️ Any ideas what I could do with boxes of .260” bullets?

Haha! Again!!! I was really excited to use them in the Swede too. I usually don’t let practicality worm it’s way in to firearms procurement, but I just don’t need the 6.5x70R. Haha

You might want to double check these .260 dia. bullets. They might be 2 diameter bullets. .256 x.264 was a common size. The 264 Win Mag and the 6.5 Rem Mag used these bullet sizes.

Thanks for that, these bullets look like a mini Hornady 6.5mm 160, very straight, round nose and cannelure at about .160” from the heel of the bullet. Neat looking bullet, just wrong diameter for my Swede darn it
