Old question, but.....

6.5 Creedmoor, loaded round neck od mic's .292..on Forster die having neck custom honed...I would like .002 neck tension....do I have honed to .290, or because of spring back, go to .289 or .2895. ??? The factory neck od of die is .285....way to much tension and working of neck brass.....sorry for asking something that might have been covered....Peterson and Lapua brass, .014 neck wall thickness..plan on not using expander ball..Thanks, Rsbhunter

It depends on your particular brass and the state of hardening. I have some cases that size exactly to the dimension of the ID of the die neck and some that spring back 0.0005" (all annealed each firing). I suggest having it honed to 0.2890" and testing. If it has too much 'tension' then send it back to have another 0.0005" removed; you can take it off but you can't put it back. Another option is to have a set of expander mandrels of a few different diameters to bring out the neck ID to your desired diameter after sizing. Sinclair, for one, sells them. If pursuing the expander route I would still have the die honed to perhaps 0.003" under target, but no more, to minimize overworking the brass if you don't anneal.

They get annealed after every firing.....I think I will go with the .2895 and then go more if needed....I have a Lee neck collet die that if the honing isn't right I can use til I get the Forster back....
