Guys I can't believe that in 2008 I came here full of zest for benchrest, and my first post was about my encore rifle...lol imagine that a wise member replied and posted STOP!!! Man have I learned so much since that day, but I didn't stick around I have come and gone in and out of different hobbies. While I was here, I did figure out that where I fit was with the Savage builds and not so much the full custom jobs. I just enjoy the savage platform and for what I do it fills the need very well. Recently diagnosed with prostate cancer at 51 years old, just had my surgery 2 weeks ago today! I find myself here every day scanning the post and watching the forum. I have one savage that I am working on now to develop into a fun coyote gun, and I just enjoy the DIY modifications that I can do myself. I am looking at adding one more Savage action to give me two platforms to build from and enjoy discovering new cartridges like the 6 and 22 Arc and others. I have a few friends, and we just plan to enjoy these builds and celebrate my victory. My pathology came back yesterday, and I am clear on all my scans and the Cancer was removed successfully thanks to early detection, now we just monitor my PSA no further treatment necessary! Guys, please get your PSA checked start before you are 50 if you can! I look forward to sharing my Savage project here and really have enjoyed this forum, it has taken my mind off of things and kept me busy.

Regards,
Brandon J.

Glad to hear you have regained your health. Everything else is small potatoes.

Best wishes on your pursuit of wily coyotes. I am an avid eastern ground hog hunter and dabble in in yote hunting. They are one smart critter in my limit experience, and I might add, my limited success.

Ugly or not, 90 percent of my varmint rifles are savage.
You owe it to yourself to have at least one top quality rig. Keep an eye on classifieds here and good deals can be struck.
oh see plenty I want, just nowhere local to play with other bench folks around here

thank you feeling so relieved, I would love to go on a prairie dog trip one day but no idea where to even start that seems like a great bucket list trip. Yotes are plentiful here and wild hogs too, we just got thermals and plan to chase at night as well.

Congrats on a clean bill of health post-op!

Keep an eye out for one of the custom actions you can get a prefit barrel for, then its kinda like a savage minus the nut and funky triggers. Get a barrel in the profile you want and you got a very nice 'yote busting machine!

I'm a 700 guy for the basic, fun guns, barrel nuts on those too. Nothing wrong with a savage, though!

I sure feel free from that worry, blessed is the word! I will keep my eye open on here, you never know I might find a bag rider again and go punching holes in paper. We had a decent range once and some good men on the line, just fell apart after the old goats got too old and many have passed on.

Welcome back! Congrats for your diagnosis! Now you can stop worrying and have fun!
Things have changed a little here but it’s still the best shooting forum on the net. Most of the old good guys are still around. We lost FGuffey a while ago but a few nut jobs are trying to fill his niche. Not as good as he did it, but they’re trying!!
I shoot alone, most times. I’m getting to like the “quiet” and tempo of it. I post target pics here and get a couple attaboys when I actually shoot something half way decent. That’ll do.
Enjoy life and have some fun!

I read a lot of articles and followed several posts, very similar to you while recovering from spinal surgeries. Followed German Salazar and David Tubs, on the 6XC. Had my target rifle rebarrled in the 6XC. While it might not be as accurate as some of Benchrest calibers, it does great shooting 600yds and 1K.

Had several people who could not hit the steel targets at 1100 yards try it with my 6mm. And where able to hit the target on the first or second attempt, they would have a look of surprise and a big grin on their faces.

Thanks, and I am glad to hear some of the OG's are still around! Look forward to your post and hope your cutting x's often!

It's nice to have a place like this and good people to share, gives me ambition and drive.
