Old HWY 87 Prairie dogs

Getting ready for my annual trip to MT for Prairie Dogs ,I shoot on a ranch off Old HWY 87 out side of Billings . Anyone out that way know how how this years PDs are ? Hearing reports things are really dry ?

No idea on the dogs but friends a bit south of there are saying they really need rain!

Rancher buddy I was on the phone with said very little snow, was hoping this year wouldn't be like 2017.

I live in Miles City so just east of Billings and yes we need rain really bad, almost no snow and a very dry last summer is not good. As for Pdogs they are in heaven it seems never really hibernated at all this winter due to the warm weather, the babies should be coming out in a month or so and that 's when things get really fun.

Thank you,just wondering if there will be fires,and if they'll shut down Old HWY 87 to Hardin ?

Fire danger is going to be high for sure but only reason they would shut down the highway is if the fire was to jump the road and then open it back up.

Was in billings Tuesday, lots of prairie dogs up along the highway towards roundup. No fires here yet but if it doesn't rain alot soon its going too be dry. If you come in the next couple months it should be good shooting.

A good starting point would be to start out with 1,000 rounds of your favorite ammo for the first day. We are currently enjoying a occasional rain storm passing through so its really not all that dry.
