can you make the old 6x47 brass from the new 204 ruger.Have old BR Rig. Like to see what it would do with better brass, All I have is poor Remington. Thanks

I have had and still do have the real 6X47 like guys in the 1970's shot BR with. Not going to start a thesis with bug collector on the origins but I know Hutton brought the cartridge out in 1960 in a gun built for him and guys like Stu Harvey made an improved version. I can read and do interviews too. Actually the 6X47 was and is a favorite of mine.
As far as .204 Ruger brass you will need a couple mandrels to bring the .204 neck up to 6mm diameter. Go back and read my Post on neck turning that Bobby started. If you don't want to go through the case expansion method take the cases you have and spin the bodies. In a large lot you should get many to give a range of say .0005-.0007 run out. Keep the best ones with good primer pockets. Load them up with 748 powder as much as can get in and any good 6mm bullets, Sierra 70 BR BT's are good.
Shoot em up and let me know how they did. Shot 1's with my gun.

Actually the best deal for you is look for some Herter's 222 Mag Brass. There must be some around I still see it for sale. I have some new in the box. Made by Hertzenberger for Herter's this is the best ever along with the RWS 5.6 X 50 Mag also around but you have to look. But Federal 222 Mag Nickel is what many used along with Remington. Spin what you got create lots and go from there. Get back on what you do.

Thanks Steve' I have plenty of expander's,lots of neck turning tools. I will get some 204 brass, I need to find out who makes the best, and get-er done. I will get back with you to see if I cant make the old thing shoot, I'm sure you have some answers.

Several of our customers have taken the Norma .204 Ruger brass and re-formed them to the 6 X 47 and have reported great results with it, based on the feedback that I have been hearing. I hope that this information will help you.

Cordially,
Bob Blaine

A Bob, their talking about the 222mag version, not a necked down 6.5x47 Lapua.

I've got a new 6x47 I'm picking up tomorrow and have a batch,50pcs each)of 204 Winchester brass and Rem 222mag brass ready to re-size. I've heard that the 204 version has a shorter neck than the Rem 222M. Well I'm gonna do up 50 of each and find out. Rifle is a classic John Bunch RBLP with a Hart 1-12 fresh from Mike Bryant. Stock is custom built by Kevin Rayhill of Stockade Gun Stocks.

Wish I had about 1000rds of Federal 6X47 brass. I just found a new box of 20. With the 204 Ruger necked up to 6mm it is 1.831 long and the old Federal brass is 1.850 long, the Ruger 204 brass is about .019 short. I don't like it, afraid it would burn the neck out faster, I don't like the brass more than .005 shorter than the chamber, and my chamber is 1.855 long . But thats just me and my .02. Art
