ok i am struggling with this

i have a savage 10 fcp with hs precision stock in 308, wanting to change to a tweener.
I have a F class in 6.5x284 and a F class in 6br, i am wanting something that will.
have less recoil than the 6.5x284( wife and daughter dont like recoil)
perform better than the 6br in windy cond.
brass is available or easy to form
work in short action mag
will be shot at 600 and 1000 f class
can use the same bolt .473
i had settled on the 260 rem until i read to much and now am confused with so many.
Thanks

Since you are looking for a compromise, how about a .223 Remington for the wife and daughter? It isn't the perfect caliber but a lot of people do quite well with it in F class. You can't beat the low recoil either.

I'm not sure .223 sounds like a "tweener". You already have 6.5 savvy so use it. low kickers are 260 or 6.5x55. possibly 260AI but that would add some oomph back into the equation. My little 21 & 1/4" 6.5 Swede just put out 130grainers yesterday (Chrony'd) at 2835 avg ten shots and was under max by .8 gr with RL22. You barely know it goes off so the ladies would be pleased. You should be able to whistle one out there with a heavier, longer F barrel. lapua brass easily found. What's not to love ?

why not the .260? great accuracy, long barrel life, good ballistics and mild recoil in a 18-21 lb rifle. third load i tested with the berger 140s at 600 yards shot a 1.5 inch group. it also shot the 139 scenars just as good. and at 2900 fps it gives up very little to the 6.5x284. id say go for it.

+1 on the .260 rem.I am building one myself and cant wait.I love accuracy and this will do just that. The other I would recommend is the .243 winchester. It has mild recoil and you can run a brake. It has great accuracy annd plenty of components available.

Savage now has the LRPV in 260 Rem. 8 twist so it can shoot all the Bergers. Lapua now supplies the brass. All is good!

I found what you are looking for in a 6.5X47 Lapua. Mine will shoot 140's at 2850-2900 with no effort.
I built it at 17lb. to make the IBS light gun class. The gun shoots free recoil easily, returning to target with little work. The brass works right out of the box.

Why do you think the recoil is going to be less on a 260 than a 6.5X284? Same bore and bullets just a little less speed. 6.5's have a "snappy" recoil that is a little bothersome.

6XC or a 6SuperLR.

I was pulling for a guy last week at 600 that was shooting a .223. He shot quite well, the rifle was a Savage BVSS on a bipod. Wind was 5-7 and he wandered into the 8 a time or 2, but mostly 9's,10's and X's.

just about everything i read about the 260 usually has the comment of mild recoil, but thats why i am asking you guys . i am pretty new to all this. one thing i want is a cal that is better than the 6 br in the wind and im not sure the 223 will meet this. i do like the 6 br and would not be against having two, just want to make sure what my options are. you know the tweener lol thanks

Sorry , I read your post, but somewhere in between reading and writing I forgot the part about wind. My favorite for wind and accuracy with not too bad recoil is my 6CM. I've never shot a 6.5x47 , but they do appeal to me.

ok between the 6.5x47 and 260 rem.
both shooting the 142 smk which one wins?
which one recoils less?
will they both work in my 308 box mag?
what fps can i really expect from a 28 inch bbl?
again thanks for any input..

They will both work in your box mag, but the "47" will fit better with the 140 class bullets because it is shorter than the 260. My COAL with 139's is 2.810". The "47" also has a longer neck and sharper shoulder.

I get 2930 from a 28" bbl with 139 Scenars in my 6.5x47 Lapua.

The "47" uses less powder so it should recoil less, but it won't be enough to notice, so I would say they are both the same.

Which one would win out of the two? That depends on who is pulling the trigger, as they are about ballistic twins.

Freestyle - you are still going to have to adjust for the wind. no matter what the cartridge. All said and done, my 6BR is my cartridge of choice for my 500yd shooting. In fact, if if I am going to shoot my 260 at a 500yd match I will shoot 107's over 140's.

IMHO, If the recoil for the gals is a real concern, shoot 6mm.
