Ohio Long Range Steel Matches

Here is a short video clip showing the various steel targets at the various ranges at Rayner's Range south of Zanesville, OH. There are 12 distances shot from 6 positions using 36 rounds. 6 of the 12 distances have different size steel targets worth different point values and the shooter has the option of what point value he wants for each shot. The matches are held the fourth Sunday of all but the coldest months.

Frank, you will enjoy it. Great bunch of guys. $20 to shoot 36 rounds plus any sighting in if you need it. I forgot to mention - the winner gets bragging rights for a month.

Nomad,

I was looking at the website and I saw that there will be two sniper/tactical matches in 2012. Do you have anymore information for these matches?

Concerning the long range matches that are listed in the schedule, are they f-class / FT-R and are there any caliber restrictions? I also saw that there were a couple of dates listed i.e. 21 or 22, does that mean that the schedule has not been finalized yet or will the be held on both days? Thanks for any information.

I'm not into the Tactical games, so you will have to contact Rayner's for more info concerning those matches.

The listed long range matches shoot the steel that is in the video. The matches are informal and a lot of fun with 40 to 50 shooters competing. About half shoot prone and half shoot from provided benches. AFIK, the only restriction is a max caliber of 338 mag. You have your choice of dates where two are listed for the long range matches.

WAY COOL!!!

What rest/bipods are the shooters using? Any restrictions on that. Are the distances marked or is it bring your own ranging device?

Thanks,
Tod

Most guys use bipods and rear bags. I have shot in two matches. On the first match, I used a front rest. But for the second, I went with a pivot bipod. Its easier to move between positions which are 50 to 100 yards apart when you don't have to lug around a heavy front rest.
You can pick up a sheet of paper at sign-in that lists all target sizes and distances.
You're correct, it is WAY COOL.
