Off Topic: Ram 2500 Power Wagon

If any of you own one, especially a 2019 or later with the 8-speed, I’d appreciate your feedback on it.

It would be my daily driver and our camping/hunting/road tripping vehicle. I don’t commute for work anymore so realistically it’ll only see 5-8k miles a year depending how much we travel.
 
Buddy of mine has an 2018, so not 19. They had to change out the transition on it at 65k. Not sure if 8 speed or 6. The only other drawback he doesn't like and I wouldn't either is when loaded or pulling a heavier trailer, the truck rocks back and forth on the back end. We hauled 15 50# bags of corn in the bed and he pulled over and put some in the back seat area to stop the wobbling. You can grab his truck bed and shake it and it rocks back and forth easy. I think this is due to the off road suspension and articulation. I have a Chevy 3/4 ton and we walked over and shook mine and it didn't rock even close. But my suspension isn't setup like the power wagon.

A friend of mine had one, was a great truck, his only complaint was the poor fuel economy (12-13 highway), and (maybe 8 pulling). I think the newer 8 speeds run the same 4:10 gears in the rear end.

I never thought I would buy anything but a Ford, but I’ve driven a few power wagons and a couple new F250s and the Ram puts the Ford to shame in ride quality. I’m sure a lot of that is the suspension setup, but even my buddy’s diesel Ram rides very smooth compared to the F250. I have an F250 now (older 6.0 with leaf springs all around) that is just a weekend truck. The lack of difference in ride quality between my current truck and the new F250 was pretty surprising.

I think the Ram spinoff has focused heavily on the age-old knocks on Dodge trucks - crappy interiors and terrible ride quality - and they have made some pretty drastic improvements.

You’re right. You mentioned ride quality and my first-hand experience was that the ride quality was actually superior to others. If you have experience with the late model trucks and mechanical issues, I’d live to hear it.

Being in the automotive repair business for over 50 years I've learned people love their vehicles. Their's ride better, look better, more power, and have the most power.
People love their chebbies, derges, and ferdes.
 
Never mind the transmission, just make sure your dealer has up to date "technicians" to work on it. It should be a computer and wiring nightmare. I'd rather have a pre 97 7.3 Powerstroke. And better yet pre 1992 without computers.
