Off the shelf 308 and optic, what to buy.

Looking to buy a 308Win and scope for range work to 1000m. What do you all consider to be the best set up in an off the shelf rifle and optic?

Remington 700 5R milspec with at least an SIII 8-32 sightron which has a 30mm main tube with a good amount of vertical built into the scope for long range use. Get the .308 at least to reach out there a fair piece. There is a almost brand new one for sale on here under the guns in the classifieds.

Savage 12 Palma in 308 with a 12 twist F-T/R barrel and Weaver T-36 scope on a 30 moa base.

Competitive on any level right out of the box for right around $2K total.

Off the shelf 308, you can't get any better than a Sako TRG22 with a March 10-60x52 Tactical or a Nightforce Competition 15-55x52. Very good set-up, if money is no object.

If I was doing it all over again I would get a FN A-3 with a 24" barrel threaded and a Vortex Razor 5-20. I got the scope now but I'm building my own 308 at this point. Those hammer forged chrome lined barrels have impressed me on several occasions.
