Ocular (eyepiece) setting for farsighted folks.

In an effort to get to the matter at hand and not waste anyone's time, I should start off by saying that I am intimately familiar with the proper way to use the ocular eyepiece to focus the reticle. I've never had a problem to date. But, I have a problem now. I have a scope that no matter where the ocular is set in its range of travel, I just can't get it focused. I should mention that I use reading glasses (+2.00) for reading. For the record, I do not use reading glasses when setting or using a scope.

Here's my question: For folks that are farsighted (require reading glasses to focus up close), where should the ocular be set in general terms, closer to the turrets or away from the turrets? I could look at my other scopes to see where they are set but it's been so long since I've used them that they are more than likely not set correctly anymore. My farsighted condition is fairly new, and sucks.

Your thoughts?

Thank you for the reply Mark. Do you use "reader" glasses when setting the scope and shooting?

No sir! I do not use the readers when setting or looking through the scope. I have tried looking through the glasses and it requires screwing the ocular adjustment in by a considerable margin. I’m just more comfortable without the glasses in the way.

That is just the information I was looking for. Thank you for sharing your experience! Hopefully I can get this sorted out before I have to invest in a bifocal windshield just to get to the matches!o_O

Agree with above, far sighted condition would necessitate adjusting the ocular out toward your eye to bring the reticle into focus with field of view...

I have the same problem and find I need to make adjustments on how tired my eyes are. Too many years working at a computer took their toll. On the bright side, now that I am not working it seems to be easier tho.

After cataracts I have lens implants. Makes it pretty hard to focus a scope properly. I usually have the adjustment out as far as it will go and still not have a perfect picture. Getting old. However, I can see a fly at 1000 yards with a naked eye. LOL.

If screwing the ocular lens all the way out is not enough, you may have to change brand of scope. Before cataract surgery, I could no longer use my Leupold scopes, as they did not have enough adjustment. My B&L 24X and 36X scopes had almost 50% more threads and I was able to focus the reticle on them. I also shot without glasses.

@anschuter2013 I too need reading glasses to get the reticle in focus and have needed to screw the ocular almost all the way out.
Now to throw a monkey wrench into the matter i am near sighted and can't see at a distance so reading glasses just dont work for me.
I shoot with both eyes open and ended up getting a pair of glasses made that has my normal distance lens in the left eye and a 2.25 reader in the right.
It works great as long as I am looking down range through the scope but I'm a mess just looking through them normal.
Isnt this sport great !

I also have the crazy eyesight problems. What helps this way hinders that way. I'll try screwing it out.
wonder if the bullz eye screw on would help. I know to too much power bullz eye doesn't but maybe low powered ones do.
I don't have a problem on my t36 with bullz eye 3.5 but I do on my NF without.

I went thru 4 scopes wearing progressive lenses before I figured out I could just use an old pair of single Rx glasses..I sent a scope back to Vortex 2x before I figured this out...I msg them and told them I was sorry for the trouble I put them thru..I have diabetes and sometimes when it gets high I just don't shoot..under control for now
